If the Linda rape was planned before Dean's return
Then who would they have originally chosen to rape her?
I guess they'd have had a boyfriend of Johnny's do the deed or something. |

I've found it difficult to work out whether Dean was brought back for the storyline, or Matt agreed to return and then this storyline was put to him. It sounded like he had the choice to turn the storyline down but I don't really know...

It sounds as though he was invited to come back on the premise of a challenging storyline but wasn't told exactly what the "challenge" was.
http://metro.co.uk/2014/10/06/exclus...-plot-4895179/ Based on his initial reaction when told what Dean would be doing, I wonder what finally convinced Matt to do it? |

Recast. The whole point is rape by someone close to you. It being a friend of Johnny's or Wayne wouldn't have worked. I have no doubt that they would have recast Dean.

I have a feeling it would have been Stan. His characterisation started to shift after Dean came into it. I think he was the back up plan.

I think it was always the plan for it to be Dean and might have rec4t if necessary. If not, I agree it would have been a boyfriend of Jonny or Nancys. They could have rejigged it so he was a presence in their lives (maybe even living at the Vic) for months beforehand and the issue of Linda being scared to say anything in case Mick attacked them and having to deal with them in family situations.

I don't think it would have been Stan. Not sure why but just doesn't feel like something they'd have done. For one thing part of it is showing that Rapists can be young, attractive, successful men that look as nice as pie.
Re Stan, does anyone think he might have a heart attack or stroke and die when it is revealed? |

I think initially he was scared because as an actor he didn't want his face associated with that kind of crime but when he realised that it might help someone he went for it.

I agree Kim I think it also could have been Wayne Ladlow, it would have tied in with Nancy's belief that Linda is a racist. Wayne would have returned from Watford a scorned man Nancy has ruined his life with images of his bits circulating around Watford. His reputation and "street cred" as it were, has been tainted by Nancy's deed and he wants to get to her by hurting the people closest to her.

He had the option to turn the storyline down but would have been a background character if he did. Matt Di Angelo returned I believe as he felt he hadn't done anything of note in his first stint, so had he refused the storyline, it would have been the same again.
If Matt refused he'd not have had big storylines that expose him to the public (wrong turn of phrase perhaps(!) but you get my drift) |

I read he wasnt that keen - HOWEVER call me naive but I thought actors under contract were obliged to act the scenes they are given - surely if he refused he'd be sacked and blacklisted as an actor? I heard Martin Platt on Corrie refused to act out a storyline where he became a peadophile so was dismissed.
