Pretty sure they do. Certainly they bring in choreographers for the AT, and in fact for some of the standard dances as well. The show covers it well, but sometimes the pro dancer is not the one doing all the teaching...
Then why do we get such horrors as that disco 'salsa' we had last year? I know it's an 'entertainment' show and all but that's taking the pee especially when all the 'judges' award it a 10. There were a few salsas last year where I could see they weren't purely salsa but I still enjoyed them as 'entertainment' but they rightly didn't get full marks.

I meant they should get in choreographers and teachers that specialise in salsa.

And please will someone make that compulsory viewing for all those deluded parents who are sending in those gruesome videos of their little darlings failing to dance or even be funny. Videos which, it seems, everyone on Strictly either has to go 'awwwwww' to or clap like seals.

I know, I know. Herod is my middle name.
Oh thank God someone said this... I find it excruciating. I do not give a *toss* about people's inept little darlings. OK gotta run, Fred Astaire is on the telly and it's glorious.

why? they dont insist on correct latin and ballroom all the time see stuff year in year out that is wrong technique and just accept it now as I am told often on here it is an entertainment show - have never seen a 'proper' salsa on SCD even Mark and karens which everyone raves about was far more samba than a salsa it is what it is

I found the dance on youtube searching for the music "El Rey Del Timbal"

Here they are on TV

Thanks for those links. These children are just so adorable

That's true but Mark's salsa did at least capture the spirit of the dance more - I guess my gripe is that if a dance style is so watered down that you don't recognise it for it's supposed to be then I just think it's a joke to put the wrong label on it.

Hurrumph

You wouldn't say that if you had danced with the Cuban I danced with last weekend.
So with you on this Throp. The ones in Cuba who taught me would agree I can just imagine them laughing at what passes for 'salsa' on SCD.

And the music choices would make them cry.

I found this one a bit disturbing. The little boy looked quite exhausted half way through

they do dress in competition wear too like all dancers

dont think latin dancers in same age group look anymore like mini adults than they do

Much prefer them in their sports gear and no make-up

ref message 31 - no I don' think the little boy was tired - he just wasn't understanding the moves he was seeing on TV (or maybe there were some lifts).
