he won't be desperate for ever. things might get worse first but then they will get better and Alfie will go back to cheeky chappy mode

Agree. I know he's desperate and everything, but they could portray it in a more sensitive way that would be truer to his character instead of by using aggression. They're just making him absolutely vile and unlikeable, and it'll be hard feeling sorry for him when the truth about everything comes out.

I usually defend Alfie, but I agree! I want nice Alfie! Shane Richie's a class actor though, it annoys me when people say he should be axed!

Didn't DTC say that they were going to make Kat and Alfie hit rock bottom so that they could build them back up again? Perhaps Alfie' s behaviour is the rock bottom part..

It was so sweet and uplifting when Alfie and Kat got together. Her Man in the Moon. Why they couldn't have left them at the centre of things, running the pub, and had all the drama all around, is beyond me.

There's no stability, apart from Dot, who never changes.

Alfie has always acted like a self-entitled Saint, though.

I couldn't believe the way he spoke to Stacey tonight. Almost in a threatening way. The Alfie from 10 years ago would never spoken to anyone like that.

He's been taking lessons from Phil.

I don't think there's any coming back from this. He's shown a horrible side to his personality these last few months. It seems like it was always there bubbling under the surface and now it has exploded in the most awful way and shown him up as a lazy, entitled, aggressive, childish, bitter bastard!

How can we ever believe he's a charming cheeky chappy after this?

The destruction of Alfie is possibly the biggest hatchet job the writers have ever done to a character. I think this surpasses even Pauline.

you an alfie fan too?

BIB. most men have those traits inside tho. some hide them well others don't

we all react in different ways when under immense pressure, it doesn't mean we will always be like that. alfie is under pressure and desperate not sure anyone would keep the cheeky chap patter when faced with losing everything

Yeah...getting your girlfriend beaten up and then cheating on her makes him a prince.

He's desperate, scared, wracked with guilt and frustrated and that can bring out latent aggression. It may not be pretty to watch but I find it believable.

It's not an entirely new thing anyway, throwing the Queen Vic bust through Phil's window almost a year ago was hardly a peaceful act was it?

I agree with you - just said a similar thing in my last post re his circumstances.

ETA ; i'd say all humans are capable of acting in an extreme way under enough pressure, not just men. Missed that bit on first reading.

Atleast it gives Shane Richie something other than cheeky chappy.

How incredibly sexist of you.

Alfie has become a total bastard. You can't have a character take a turn like this and reset them back to being Mr. Nice Guy and expect people to buy it.

Ever since he returned I think it's been there under the surface. He was only ever one step away from dropping the cheeky chappy facade. At least it proves Shane Richie can act even if the character has become a hate figure.

It was sweet & uplifting when they got back together last year, viewers commenting on EE pictures on Facebook around that time said so too.

As for Kat & Alfie hitting rock bottom I think that happens when Alfie tells Kat the truth about the fire, they probably end up sorting it out then getting back together again, but I love them all the same.

Not for everybody it wasn't. I just felt sorry for Roxy and angry on her behalf that they couldn't show some discretion and be more sensitive to her hurt and tellingly, alfie was the worst one - Kat at least had the good grace to look a little bit guilty about it.

But I didn't post on Facebook or Twitter about it so I can see how my opinion isn't included. I was quite vocal on here though, so we're quite a few others.

I can appreciate that people who love the coupling probably really enjoyed the mad airport dash and alfie publicly declaring his love left, right and centre.
