How selfish is Sonia?
I was so mad at her tonight! Chloe is definitely mature for her age but her being told that she's basically the only reason that her parents are staying together is far too much pressure and stress to put on a teenage girl. She's got the chance of a lifetime, a scholarship at a decent school pursuing music and now she feels she has to stay because she doesn't want her parents to divorce. I really felt sorry for her tonight, it's not like she was demanding that Sonia fork out for her to go to this school, she was going for a scholarship and a chance to better herself. I thought Sonia would have understood that considering how she struggled to get an education and become a nurse, she is being unbelievably selfish.

Sonia is a horror! Martin should give her the push ASAP.
And what the hell was she talking about when she said "one minute you're changing their nappies then they're all grown up"? Has she forgotten she gave Rebecca up for adoption and didn't get her back until she was 5 years old? |

Very selfish.
She might as well of said, " Look here, if you want to be on the tele you have to stay." |

It is selfish but I can kind of inderstand it even though I don't approve.
She has lost Rebecca once (albeit by her choice) and probably doesn't want to again. Her marriage is in trouble, she's just spent months thinking she might lose her Mum and has the black cloud of knowing she (and possibly Rebecca as well) has the Cancer gene hanging over her. She's probably lonely, scared and doesn't want Rebecca to grow up too fast. Fair on Rebecca - no of course not but I do get it. It'"l be interesting to see if they ever tell us why she and Martin didn't have more kids - whether it was a mutual decision (money or career considerations perhaps), one wanted to, one didn't causing problems in the marriage, tried and didn't conceive? You'd think it would have come up over 8 years for a couple in their twenties. |

Sonia annoyed me more than Alfie last night. A chance of a lifetime for Rebacca and she expects her to throw it away. I hope Martin finds out and leaves her anyway. It wasn't long ago that she was resenting Bianca having a chance of happiness...Sonia is so like her mother.

How is Sonia anything like carol?
Carol would do anything for her family! She basically brought up Bianca's children while she was in and out of prison Carol and Bianca fell out because of Dan Plus Bianca is a very selfish person IMO, I think a lot mothers would of washed their hands of her years ago! |

To be fair Sonia did get the chance to change her nappies before giving her up.

As long as it suits her, She doesn't want them happy that is for sure
Everyone has to suffer when she's miserable. She was even miserable when she was cured of cancer because she wouldn't have the whole family running around her any more. |

Yes, she was adamant that Bianca should get rid of Ricky, not just out of her life but out of his children's lives. then she insisted that David left Walford just because she didn't want to marry him.....blow what his daughter and grandchildren wanted.

I agree about Carol. She's a bitter manipulative shrew when things don't go her way. The apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Carol can be marvellous but she can also be very selfish and judgemental and yes, does love to share her misery.
People tend to forget that she left Sonia hight and dry after Chloe's birth. I know that was kind of inevitable because Coulsen had left and Cassidy was still in the show so they couldn't have Carol be supportive and I did think it was out of character at the time, but the fact is it did happen so it can't be erased from her history and you can't use the Dan Sullivan excuse which is the standby for the poor treatment of Bianca. Didn't she refuse to help Bianca when she was homeless as well or have I imagined that? No matter what the relationship with her, she should have considered her grand children. |

I agree with the sentiments in this thread, re both Sonia and Carol.
Not only is Sonia being selfish but incredibly stupid. Denying her child the chance to better herself and later on look after herself in this climate... jesus wept. It's Sonia who'll be crying when Rebecca's struggling to get some dead end job on the market, thus perpetuating the family poverty cycle... |

The idea of Carol as a supporting mother and grandmother is actually laughable. What sort of mother would let their young daughter live away from her for years and wash her hands of her when she gets pregnant? I'll never forget as well the time she aborted her own baby because she found out Dan cheated on her. Then there was the shoddy treatment of Bianca's kids when they were homeless. Carol is pretty spiteful all things considered.
That said, she can be kind and caring when it suits her. It is always the precedent given when it is suggested that kids stay in the show when their parents leave and I always dismiss it as it played a great part in destroying Carol's character for me. |

You see I always had a problem with Sonia coming back to live in Walford after the Jacksons left. Not because I hated the character and wanted her gone (actually quite liked her back then) but because I just didn't believe that Carol would allow it. Carol was a fairly good (if sour faced) mum first time round and there is no way she wouldn't have wanted her 13 year old daughter with her. It's not as though Sonia was getting some 'chance of a lifetime' education by living away from home, she was just at a bog standard comp with her brother and Grandad who her Mum had only just reconciled with after years of estrangement. That was bad enough, but to reject her for falling pregnant at 13 - the hypocrisy of it aside from anything else.

Agreed. I wonder if that's why Tiff and Morgan were shipped off with Bianca rather than kept on. I never really bought that Bianca would leave Liam with Ricky in 2002 either.
No, I never believed that Bianca would dump Liam on Ricky either. |

Where is the name Chloe coming from?
![]() I've seen a few posts on here getting Rebecca confused for 'Chloe'I agree, what a horrible position for Rebecca to be in. How old is she meant to be, 13 or something? Sonia has pretty much made it clear that the fate of her marriage rests on Rebecca's shoulders so if they split up now, Rebecca will feel like it's her fault. Also, even if Rebecca does give up her music school, what about when she's 18 and wants to go to uni? Is she expected to live with her parents forever in order to keep them together? Poor girl.
