Does anyone think the character of Alfie Moon is heading towards oblivion?

We all know how money worries are linked to depression and his behaviour has been extremely erratic recently.

Obviously he's not thinking logically at the moment, and I was really surprised at how badly he treated Masood's house.

To those who think all of this is out-of-character and unrealistic, I've seen something very similar happen to a very close family member and the deterioration is awful to watch to those people who were previously so happy-go-lucky.

Alfie hasn't exactly been met with much kindness either, from the letting agent or the . I like the storyline - it shows the scandalous ease it takes to fall into poverty in this country.

I have a feeling it might all end terribly. Alfie is racked with regret and guilt, he has to look at his wife everyday knowing what he did to her, and knowing that it has permanently smashed her confidence, he nearly killed his own children which he had waited so long to have, and his wife will never forgive him or completely trust him once she knows.

I fear Alfie might commit suicide.

Possibly. As long as he really suffers first.

I don't think he'll commit suicide but I could see him going down the Arthur Fowler route - mental breakdown and prison.

I dont think we'll see him leave the square just yet, although the actress who plays Kat is brilliant, I think the physical/emotional scars from the fire, 3 children and the possible continued debt would be too much for her to take on alone. Although she does have family, Stacey has her own things going on and we don't see a lot Mo.

I personally think we might see Alfie crawl out of debt slowly with help of different organisations and see the family using food banks etc for Christmas just to show viewers that you can recover from debt. However, just as they get back on their feet, Alfie will be found out for starting the fire and end up either with a suspended sentence or a short stint inside.

Not gonna lie Chris, I'm an empathetic b*stard at the best of times as well you know, but I'd feel really cheated if Alfie didn't suffer horrifically before topping himself.

It's actually reminding me of Arthur Fowler quite a lot - which is a good thing. Also shades of Frank in 94 with the arson insurance fraud and the guilt at somebody getting hurt angle.

I'm not sure if they'd have the guts to actually kill him off but suicide would be a very brave way of doing it. Whilst a lot of Alfie's problems are of his own making, it does show how easily a few bad decisions can nearly destroy a life and result in poverty and homelessness and that some people just can't cope.

Surely he will have been arrested by then for arson and attempted fraud and be banged up. Maybe he will commit suicide whilst in prison.

Good call. I hope the story doesn't just end with Alfie being bailed out. This has potential to run for a while. This is a reality for many people and it should be depicted.

As much as I don't like Alfie I don't want him to kill himself. What a horrible way to end his character. I don't think Kat would ever get over it and the kids would grow up without a dad.

Moon will just run away.

After a few years a new approved version will return and everything will be forgotten.

If he does, he will make sure his ridiculous sideburns are touched up with his Just For Men, such a seemingly young (kind of) haircut on an old face

He could try, maybe? After he tells Kat or Kat finds out what he's done?

I really don't think that it'll end that way, I can't see Alfie leaving anytime soon - or Kat
I can see him POSSIBLY ATTEMPTING suicide, or just having a mental breakdown as others have said above

You've got to be kidding - the death of Alfie Moon would be the best Christmas present I've had in years.

I thought soaps avoid doing this as depressed and isolated people are particularly vulnerable at that time of year and it would be deemed irresponsible.

The series wouldn't be the same without Alfie in it. If they kill Alfie, they will have to ditch Kat, Stacey and Mo as well. The family without Alfie doesn't really make sense to me. Also, I was expecting a cool storyline for Stacey, but nothing so far.

No. People are just speculating that there could be a shock twist ending to the storyline.

Also Shane's son made a crack about Alfie dying a few weeks ago.

We can only hope.

I've never really liked him, due to the fact he is selfish + such a horrible character. The whole "cheeky" act he puts on is just pure irritating, so i'm hoping it does get killed off.

They pulled back from doing it with Aidan Christmas 93 (I think) but I think they might have the guts to do it now.

It's a fine line. Suicides do go up round Christmas time (I believe) so it would be reflecting a real issue (the jollity and expense of it being the last straw for already depressed or troubled people) and perhaps encourage people to think about people in need (especially emotional - say a neighbour with no family or elderly widowed relative) but they won't want to risk being accused of putting the idea into people's heads.

Well that's a matter of opinion. I don't want him killed off as i'm finding him more interesting than I have in years but Kat and Stacey both worked fine as characters in their own right without Alfie. In fact, arguably, Kat is stronger without him.
