Mental speculation in my head right now who Missy could be...

Remember Bad Wolf? The Game Station and Satellite Five were people's lives are played in a long game?

I think she's something similar, hence the Cybermen instead of Daleks, well anyway the Poster on the London Bus from The Forest of the Night Trailer, we could see The Doctor and Clara with the Tardis as if it's some gimmick or red herring. I think their lives are being played with by Missy, hence the Ipad? it's like she's watching the show herself, like she's planning every move of what Clara and The Doctor do.

So i think she is revealed to be as... Steven Moffat's Female Persona haha

No but seriously she might be a Cyberleader, like Miss Hartigan was in The Next Doctor (2008)

Idea made me smile. Who goes completely meta and SM is chased out of the country with an angry mob pursuing him, Pitchforks in one hand and laptops in the other. It'd be like McGoohan in 1968 all over again. (with laptops)

It's just a thought, and I'm sorry if it seems stupid, but could she be some kind of alternate manifestation of "Mr Clever" from Nightmare In Silver? There was already a character in the episode called Missy, plus Mr Clever had access to information about regeneration...

What we know about her?

-she knows Doctor
-she changes faces (Michelle Gomez hasn't played anyone yet)
-she is Doctor's rival or enemy

So, I think she is a time lady from Doctor's past, maybe Rani...

The other two are complete conjecture on your behalf. From the evidence given, you can surmise the third one. But there is absolutely no way you can 'know' the second one. After all, River met the Doctor the wrong way round - she knew him before he knew her from our linear perspective.

So, to revise your list and make it correct:

I like this idea. Anything that means all the events of the series never happened would be great.

I have been thinking about this. Missy is exactly who she says she is.. The Doctors girlfriend. This is either one of two things.

1) The mother of the Doctors children. We know he had grandchildren and a family at one point in his life. This could be that coming back to haunt him.

2) His actually girlfriend or mistress (Missy) he had while with his family.. like an affair he had behind the mother of his kids back. Hence Missy is the mistress.


My original thought going back to when she first appeared was she was the Cybermen interface, at time of conversion. The promised land/heaven is the cybermen upgrade to perfection (heaven)

But one of the clips has shown an orange planet, and thinking back to Robots of Sherwood the planet they were trying to reach was orange on the view screen.

I am extremely confident Missy is the Rani. She is a Timelord I don't think they will have the Master without John Simm returning. Series 9 finale the Master and the Rani appears and the series 8 finale is introducing her to most viewers.

There is the 1970's child in me that secretly wants Missy to turn to the camera at some stage and slowly tear off the female latex mask to reveal THE Master. A badass Simms would be nice but I'd settle for for a black goateed Charles Dance. (cue end credit scream)

Could Missy be an older Clara, turned bad by the trips with the Doctor? To save her the Doctor will need to stop her travelling with him. A bit rubbish and Missy's eyes are the wrong colour!
I also can't help but think Michelle Gomez reminds me of Kate O'Mara.

How about this for an odd one, Missy is The Moment. Mainly because 'it' is the only main female character from NuWho with a Gallifrey connection that hasn't been touted as a possibility yet! There are other reasons that point to this, but it's way too late in the day to go into them!!

Really can't wait to find out!!!

My last minute wild prediction would be the Dreamlord based on absolutely nothing but a guess that I haven't heard anyone speculate on and hoping for some kind of surprise. but truth be told its probably The Rani

Him and Capaldi....Im not sure Doctor Who would be prepared to go THAT dark.

I could see her being a character working for someone else, her being defeated this season/series and then the other character is part of the overall arc.

Nah too much of a build up to the mysterious Missy, to have the big reveal be that she was a pawn of some yet unknown character would be a huge let down and leave the season seem incomplete leading into a stand alone christmas episode.

Hmm On the bad wolf not could she be the Consciousness of the Moment that originally took the form of Badwolf rose? Another wild guess.

As for why she would want to stop The Doctor finding Gallifrey could be very interesting indeed. Would be a great returning character as well.

Missy wears a brooch with Flora/Chloris on it. Chloris created the first rose on earth from the body of a dying nymph. The Doctor is said to be surprised by the technology of The Nethersphere. Would 'The Moment' want Clara to be there when The Three Doctors (v2.0) were about to destroy Gallifrey so that she could prevent its own use?

On the other hand, Chloris was a planet visited by 4th Doctor and Romana and she once wore a hat with cherries on it, as does Missy.

Terribly exciting!!

Time cant be re written. Fixed points and all that, (even the fuzzy grey areas) Maybe Clara should never have been at the barn when the button was 'pressed' after all.

As for details regarding how and why..don't ask..I haven't got that far yet
