Liam announced it on his Twitter this afternoon. Maybe public apathy killed them.

It wouldn't surprise me if Liam ended up broke. His divorce settlement and child support for the many kids he's fathered won't be cheap.

He'll be on the phone pleading forgiveness from Noel in about a year probably. If he's pissed off the other Beady Eye members it could be hard to sort out an Oasis reunion though.

Coincidentally, I've been listening to Noel's album recently (in anticipation of the new High Flying Birds stuff) and it really is very good. I'm sure most predicted that he would be the one that would come out of Oasis best off and he's still turning out some very good songs.

Can't say it is a surprise. I could never really warm to Gem and Andy and they were just kinda 'there' with Oasis. So it's no wonder Beady Eye didn't work out. There's no way Liam is gonna end up broke though.

Can't say it surprises me really. Noel was the songwriting genius behind Oasis, without him Liam's band was always doomed. People keep touting a reunion, but with High Flying Birds doing so well I don't see it happening at the mo.

On another note, as I've managed to lose my original copy of the album, I recently went out and bought the Morning Glory reissue with all the B-sides and added other goodies. Listening to that again you just think Jeeeesus Christ, it not just me living on rose tinted memories, Oasis really do totally sh*t over every current British indie/rock act going and many of the older ones too! The B-sides alone outclass the full career output of most artists.

Let's hope Pretty Green doesn't go into the red.

Liam's voice is terrible now anyway, sounds like a worn out lawnmower motor. I am sure most of Beady Eye will start sniffing around Noel for opportunities now. Noel only needed Liam until he developed his own stage presence and confidence in his abilities, Liam had been surplus to requirements for years even before they split.

I've always felt Noel manipulated Liam in the early days of Oasis; his behaviour brought maximum publicity to the band, and Noel was very canny about that, I think - it wouldn't surprise me if the Oasis split, and the way it happened, was engineered by him because the band were past their best, and he knew it.
Even if Oasis reformed now, I can't see where Liam's place would be, since Noel now has the better voice - Liam has completely wrecked his.

The quality of their material wasn't good enough.

Unless they were playing Oasis songs.

I'm actually a bit sad, I really liked thier latest album.

Noel is very much the talent in that family. Liam was the passenger. He played his part by generating interest, had an okay voice, but Noel had the skill, and the latter is long lasting, the former is fleeting and of its time.

You might be right. Noel wrote most of the Oasis songs didn't he? So will get most of the royalties.

That is a great album, I listen to it regularly.

I also have Beady Eye's first album but I've only listened to it once...

The Stone Roses were the better band.
And come on, all this falling out? What a load of rubbish. They both wanted to do their own thing, they pretend to fall out thus splitting Oasis up, only one thing that means, £££££££ when they inevitably get back together, because they will, no doubt about it.

Oasis is one band whose appeal went straight over my head. I've never understood the hype. Yes, they continued to have success post-millennium, but their relevancy was over by the time the 1990s ended. Liam Gallagher's voice was awful back in the day. It's even worse now.

I don't think there was anything fake about the feud between Noel and Liam. If the rumours are right about what Liam said to Noel I'd be surprised if they ever speak again.

Liams voice was as big a part of Oasis as anything. His voice made great songs even better. Stuff like Cigarettes and Alcohol, Live Forever and Slide Away just aren't the same with Noel singing.

I saw Beady Eye when they first formed and Liams voice was actually better than it had been in years, better than the numerous times I saw Oasis towards the end. Haven't heard him live recently though.

They are back on speaking terms.

Liam's raspy voice has an edge and character. I don't know how to describe it, but Noel can't pull off the songs as well as Liam did. Noel's voice is more polished, thin and sometimes whiny. I like his solo stuff and High Flying Birds, but I always end up wondering how much better would they sound if Liam was the one singing...

I loved Liam's voice in Oasis. He has (or at least had) a much stronger voice than Noel, who could sound very whiny and off-key at times, to me. Liam is a great frontman, it's a shame if his voice has gone (I haven't heard him sing recently). Whilst I adored Oasis (still listen to them a lot) I haven't really liked much of anything Beady Eye released and I guess that is all down to the songs themselves. Noel really is the better songwriter. Although, with Liam writing a great song like I'm Outta Time with Oasis, I thought he showed songwriting talent of his own too and hoped he'd carry on in this vein with Beady Eye but sadly not.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next. I would love Oasis to reform but I don't know if it will happen.

Disappointed to hear this, I wanted to see what Liam could do by himself, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I wonder what he will do now....?! Personally (and I seem to be in a minority here) I prefer Beady Eye's debut album to the second album. I think their debut was the best material Liam had released in years, the second album didn't do much for me at all.

Noel's new album is sounding promising though.

I doubt they will reform Oasis when High Flying Birds is doing so well.
