I'd hazard a guess that Liam himself may have decided to split the group and the others agreed.
I'm sure I read they'd sacked their manager a few months ago and replaced him with Liam's new girlfriend. He may be looking at going solo with a backing band similar to how Noel has gone.
I can't see Noel being keen on reforming Oasis. They may be on speaking terms but that's different to being in a band and spending months both in the studio and on the road together. Their relationship seems to be more fractious when they spend long periods of time together.
There has been several big bust ups over the years between the two but Noel always decided to come back and carry on. The last one was just the final straw for Noel and he probably realised he just didn't need the hassle any more. I'm guessing he's enjoying being in a band environment with the HFB's but without having to deal with Liam being a massive nobber most of the time.
Noel's also got 2 good mates in Paul Weller and Johnny Marr that have both gone on to success despite vehemently refusing to reunite their successful bands (The Jam & The Smiths).
