Apologies if been discussed elsewhere but has the reason why 12 has the same face as Caecilius been explained? Have I blinked and missed it or is this something that will be answered in the finale I wonder?

they made a brief reference in the series opener it was rather cryptic (when he was looking in the mirror).

Yeah, that was all wasn't it? I rather had the impression from the Moff interviews it was going to be a more exciting reveal than that. I will be disappointed if that is it!
No, in the opener it was more a case of the Doctor being puzzled about why he recognized his new face. No explanation was given, so presumably, one will come up.
I think possibly its something to do with Marcus Aurelius, the poster that Clara had on her wall. He was the last of the good roman emperors, so i'm assuming that's why he has that face to remind him he's supposed to be a good man.

Didn't sound that exciting
Quote: “Truthfully I don’t think it’s something you have to resolve because audiences do understand that the same actor can play different parts.
“When Peter Capaldi turned up in Torchwood Russell said he had a plan in his head on why he looked like the guy in The Fires of Pompeii. So I emailed him and said what was the explanation and does it fit with the new Doctor? And it sort of does.
So in a very low-key way we’ll address it. It won’t be a major deal because in the end people know the real reason is he’s played by the same actor.”
It might be addressed, it might not be. The "save at least someone" concept was rehashed again last night by Clara and that's certainly reminiscent of Donna helping save Caecilius.
If turns out to be relevant, it would be a fantastic excuse to make an episode of it and bring back Catherine Tate and Karen Gillan as the Soothsayer.

I thought the implication was that at a subconscious level the Doctor has "chosen" this face because it appealed to Clara. Cue muffled British embarrassment.
