I've looked back a bit and can't see any similar threads, hence this one.

Am I the only slightly peeved watcher feeling upset (exaggeration, but you know what I mean) that she obviously has had much more dance training in her life than the others. I would like to see a completely level playing field where people that had hardly danced a step in their lives were the contestants one year.

I thought the same. She's obviously had a lot of dance training and it shows. I don't think it's fair, no, and they should all start out at an equal level. Caroline and Frankie also have had classical dance training. It shows in their hand, arm and foot positioning.

I would like to see a completely level playing field where people that had hardly danced a step in their lives were the contestants one year.
That would rule out most contestants, certainly just about all actors and even Judy Murray had dance lessons as a child.

Just thinking of the 13 Scotts taking part, the mind boggles.

If I were an Alison or Judy I would feel a bit miffed with it all.
They'd only have room to be miffed if they hadn't seen the show before and noticed that it happens almost literally every year that there's a contestant with masses of dance training and who never wins. Although I doubt Alison or Judy much care about the rarified air of what happens 10 places above them on the leaderboard where they could never hope to be whether Pixie was there or not.

I really like Pixie. She seems almost as good as a professional. Her samba waa so good. I know she has had training and it doesn't seem that fair, but her and Trent dance so well together. They're like one, like Torvill and Dean.

Sunetra's my favourite this year and I will take a lot of dissuading from the opinion that she too has had plenty of previous.

So it would be very hypocritical of me to picksy on Pixie. On the contrary I value the quality she's brought to the show from week 1.

I agree, I look forward to their dance every week and I haven't been disappointed yet.
I also like Frankie and Kevin but I can't seem to feel the same about Caroline and Pasha, but no idea why that is.

Strangely enough (and I've said this elsewhere), it's her partnership with Trent that really grates on me. I don't particularly mind them separately, in fact I quite like Trent, but I don't get them together. They make me want to throw things. It's like watching dolls dancing - plastic and unreal - even though I can see it's very competent, well-choreographed and she makes some beautiful lines. I don't get the doll vibe from Trent when he does a pro dance, only in partnership with Pixie.

I'd rather watch the Pixie's of the show than the Scott's, so no, I'm not annoyed by her being in the line up. Couldn't care less about previous training - Natalie was my favourite last year and Pixie's one of my favourites this year

I'm with you OP. I loved watching Frankie and Pixie so far, but I hope upon hope that neither of them win as it seems unfair as a "competition" when you have a head start (DVO, natalie).

I saw a lot of similarities between DVO and Pixie from day 1 and last week's tears decided me.
I like Trent and his choreography but I won't be rooting for them to win, I much prefer Sunetra out of the women and surprisingly ( to me! ) Judy.

It's amazing how people see things differently. I don't see Trent like a doll at all. Just a beautiful elegant dancer. I see Pixie and Caroline in the finals.

Where are you getting this idea that she ( and Frankie, for that matter ) has had dance training?
Is it just because she's good?
It is possible to just be a naturally good dancer.

Is it because she gets all the technical stuff right?
Perhaps, unlike some of the contestants down the bottom of the table, she listens when her partner tells her about technical details and realises their importance.

Some people are just good at things, It doesn't mean they've had training.

There is no doubt that she is very good, but I can't like her. She's just too perfect and somehow lacks fire. Of the three top girls I prefer Caroline because she has some omphhh! about her.

Must say, it's not obvious to me that Pixie's had much more dance training than all of the rest. Frankie and Caroline look to be of a similar standard. I mean, Caroline took part in and won a BBC show in which celebrities were partnered with wheelchair users and together learned Ballroom and Latin dances. That'll have helped.

There's usually one contestant that stands out in terms of prior experience, but this year there's at least 3 of them. Pixie tends to be singled out though.

As sure as Day follows night threads like this pop up ever year poor Nat got hammered for it last year it is like a Lemon Convention. If people are not happy then contact the BBC they are the ones that hand out the contracts. I for one don't want see a sow full of Allison's shuffling about the floor.

I don't really get why she's being singled out either. To address the thread, would anyone really want to watch a whole series of contestants of Scott etc level? I know I wouldn't.

I don't have a problem with people drawing a line. I would probably draw a line myself at someone like Darcey being a contestant or anyone else known principally for being a professional dancer.

However the reality is that the lines people draw are invariably very squiggly lines designed to support an agenda rather than nice straight lines based on a principle. I do have a problem with that.

So no ballroom or Latin tuition? Yet some here criticise Darcey for not being suitable as a judge because she is a ballet dancer! I think some people on here latch on to different dancers each year and make unjustified claims of them being trained. Perhaps Pixie being young and pretty might be a factor.

Its an old argument . Last year we had the excellent Natalie , but it doesn't mean they'll win . I'm not too fussed, always enjoy top class dancing from a celeb .

Don't think that Bollywood dancing is quite the same as ballroom or latin dancing, though

Only thing she might have learned there are her delicate arm placements (which I've yet to see any of the other girls do better).

I agree. I am guessing that she has drawn the shortest straw because of her personality. She is not a vanilla as Frankie and not as bubbly as Caroline.
besides, I think Pixie is the one people are starting to see as the teacher's pet which annoys a lot of people who think their favourite is actually better.

Well, any dance training helps. A lot. Maybe not if you want to get to Pro/world class amateur long term as some of the bad habits may difficult the process in the long haul, but for strictly purposes, when you have to basically fake it in one week, I am yet to be convinced that any previous dance training isn't massively helpful.
