I'm always confused by the reaction every year to 'its unfair' when there is a better dancer on the show - especially when it becomes the popular opinion. An example would be Denise Van Outen...she wasn't a favourite of mine, but I couldn't understand why people were claiming she had an advantage, when I knew from the first week that regardless of what she did on the dancefloor, how well she may perform in comparison to others, that she had no chance whatsoever of winning the competition. That alone tells you its not about how well you dance or perform - unfairness comes into it at some level (either because you've had dance training or because people will never vote for you because you have!)
I don't always favour the best dancer, but usually I feel sorry when 'popular' contestants beat less popular ones even though they haven't danced nearly as well. However, I accept its a competiton and entertainment and it is nice to have a mix of good quality dancing, and 'personalities' that people warm to as they invest more in the show. And I'm biased myself. I can see Pixie is technically a brilliant dancer, but I haven't warmed to her as a person at all. Don't dislike the girl, but I just can't really see much of her personality. And I don't enjoy her dances nearly as much as I do Carolines. I'm still not sure if she doesn't put the same passion/personality into her dance as Caroline does, or Carolines dances effect me more because I like her better as a person, but I'm sure theres personal bias in there somewhere and I think most people have it and unfairness/bias comes into it a bit for different reasons. What I don't agree with is that the unfairness relates only to the contestants with dance training, as quite often those are the contestants that are treated unfairly because they're disliked the most because of it, don't get the votes and are out much earlier than they should be.
