Albert Tatlock & Ena Sharples era of Corrie.
They were well before my time but I do know they're both legendary characters.
Is there anyone on here who was was watching the show back then? |

Well no but I've seen episodes of just before Albert left. Weird to say he looked at least twenty years older than Bill Roache does now. I'm pretty sure Bill Roache is actually older now too.
But yeah they were both legendary characters. 'You raise your voice to me again Mrs Sharples and you won't need that hair net. You'll have no flaming hair left!' I remember Rita's first wedding when the Wedding photographer was desperately trying to get two people to 'Smile!!' The camera cut to a surly Ena and Albert. 😄 |

Mavis et al. |

superb characters. i must admit alot of the earlier episodes, i have seen on dvd.
violet carson was a real find, can't believe they nearly axed the character of ena as they could not find an actress suitable for the role. luckily for us tony warren remembered vi carson from his past on children's hour and the rest is history. as tony once said 'ena is coronation street.'

Possibly the two best characters ever seen in Coronation Street.

In fact I have just looked them up. I was 5 when Ena left and 9 when Albert left. I remember seeing Corrie when I was little but can't remember seeing Ena in anything other than clips at all.

Wasn't Albert a bit of a grump?

I've watched it from the start, they were both miserable characters, no shading to them. There was very little humour in those days, it was filmed in black and white which added to the air of depresion
