Sainsbury's fresh soup mix
Tess-g

I hadn't seen these before as I don't usually look at the prepared veg in Sainsbury's. However, while hunting for something else I found these bags of ready prepared soup mix. I've just cooked the butternut squash with red onion and chilli and it's lovely! It made over 1L too.

When time is short as it is for a lot of people, having the peeling and chopping done for you is a great time saver and you still end up with home made soup where you can limit the salt if you need to.

There are 3 other mixes in the range - Potato and Leek, Vegetable Broth and Winter Vegetable. Has anybody tried any of these and can give me a recommendation of which to try next?

That's a great idea and you won't have left over squash. £2 is great price as well if you get a couple of servings out of it.

Can't answer your question though.

I'd probably try the squash one as I've tried butternut squash before and thought it was a right hassle to peel and prepare, so much so that I never tried it again

Wouldn't bother with the leek and potato as it only takes a minute to peel a spud and chop up a leek..................and the winter veg just includes a bit of carrot, onion, suede, barley and parsley. I wouldn't buy that as I don't fancy the barley which will take a lot longer to cook than the veg. If I was putting barley in soup I'd cook it separately and have it cooked and ready before I started making the soup

As it happens though, I haven't noticed them in my local Sainsbury shops

I completely understand that if you're short on time that these are a great idea, however, in practice, and I don't know if this is a cultural thing, but I couldn't imagine cooking something that didn't have my heart and love in it, and preparing the veg an so on, is almost an extension of that love.

It's £3.33 per kilo.
That's dearer than most canned or sachet "already made" soups on the shelf
Certainly dearer than making a "batch from scratch" from your own veg and freezing it.
But, check out dried "cuppa" soups - £10/12 per kilo.

Morrisons sell stew/casserole veg packs.

You get carrots, leeks, parsnips, sweed/turnip etc.
A little mixure in each pack and they're less than £1.

You do have to peel them and add your own spuds but for the price you shoud get a soup/stew for 6 to 8 portions.
