Maebh-the psychic young girl last night
Phoenix Lazarus

Do you think she's going to be brought back to play a part in the final two episodes? She seems too interesting to just drop, given it seems she has some sort of psychic powers but has been labelled as in need of 'medication'-indicating people believe her to have psychiatric problems. There is also an interesting back-story with regard to her sister going missing, for reasons as yet unexplained.

I wouldn't mind that but some people think that all child actors are rubbish.

I thought the actress who played her was very good myself one of the few good things about that episode.

The trauma of her sister disappearing, and the guilt she felt that this was somehow her fault, caused her connection with the 'aged entity' to manifest and enabled her ability to see the thoughts of others. Now that guilt has gone, and the entity has powered down due to the crisis being averted, she will return to being a normal little for her age girl. Presumably.

In folklore Maebh was the queen of the forest fairy folk.

Shakespeare mentions her.

So she is. I thought the girl playing the part was great and wouldn't mind her coming back again. I like Ruby too.

I saw an interview with Moff where he said that audiences hate 'boy geniuses' but SF keeps using them.

So why does he think audiences like 'prescient young females' any better?

Casting is so important when it comes to child actors. I don't think it's true that they're universally awful. I liked the main little girl in 'Forests'. The arm waving was a bit odd, but one would assume she was getting direction on that.

I don't think any of the children were awful.

I think the arm waving made sense as she was seeing the glowing things it was pretty much how anyone reacts when swarmed by flying bugs

On the subject of Maebh - something that's really bugged me since the episode aired: how the flip did she get out of the museum in the first place?

Do we know that she was ever in the museum?
She could have split from the group before they even got there, although if that were the case Danny would have been even more useless, if that were possible, as he would have spent all night there with the "team" and still not noticed she was missing!

”

Clara didn't know she was missing, either. Two adults with a small group of kids and no-one did a head count?
I thought she was good but very reminiscent of the little girl in Small Worlds who was literally away with the fairies

I agree it was bad they didn't notice she was missing and you think they would notice her even more as she needs her meds and talks to herself (or so they thought) and keeps flapping her arms around.

Why didn't any of the other kids notice either?

I thought her sister at the end was interesting. She looked like she had a story to tell too. I think we may see them both again.. And I wouldn't mind that at all. Thought the two characters were intriguing and yes the little girl wasn't annoying like some children characters..

Her sister was interesting because not much was said about how she became missing.

I thought that was incredibly corny. Also, the most presumptuous happy ending ever. It made me think: why did she run away in the first place? Because she's a 'moody teenager', as they tried to make her look? Why are we to suppose the problems she had have gone away? Maybe there was an abusive atmosphere in the house? She must have some issues that caused her to leave. It's not a default happy ending that she's returned, far from it. For all we know she's returned to an abusive environment.

It was far too much of a shallow 'feel good' ending for me.

It makes me think of this song:

Intriguing, then, which is what something can become when one does not know the full story behind it.

This is one of my main issues with all the criticisms of this episode. Everyone seems to be saying how bad all the children were, and it's just not true. Most of those kids gave very solid performances. Which just undermines a lot of the other criticisms

I thought it was just that her sister had run away, hence het disheveled look. The little sisters plea for her to return caused her to come home.
