Since practically every dance is now given a Standing Ovation they have become totally devalued and the whole spectacle now has become cringeworthy .

A Standing Ovation should only be given to a very rare outstanding dance which is worthy of 4x10's or even 4x9's .

Excuse me!
These are far from meaningless!
If you're one of the usual "favoured few" at the front and you refuse to stand up when ordered, you've not a snowball's chance in hell of getting another ticket!

I thought we'd hear the end of " Look, ( insert name of contestant here) They're all on their feet for you! " when Brucie left.

..but no

I don't think you needed the "now" in the thread title...

It's more unusual not to get one.

Indeed 54% of the dances up to this Saturday (I haven't added the numbers in yet) have received standing ovations.

Which sort of indicates that it was not necessarily a Brucie thing (something that he was pilloried for by quite a few here).

They used to be a rare spectacle .
That was many moons ago. Bruce spent several series yelling "LOOK, LOOK - THEY'RE ON THEIR FEET!" at poor, bewildered couples who must have wondered why he thought they'd lost the use of their eyes and now Tess is doing likewise. They've been meaningless for a long time.

I do agree with the premise of your thread. I'm just a shameless pedant.

Agreed. It's all wearing a bit thin now - all the standing ovations, the "take no notice, we loved it", the booing when the judges dare to give their critique etc etc

The use of such things and we know they are "orchestrated," lose their impact when they are used to often.
But they are part of the BBC's subtle strategy to increase or maintain this programme's ratings.
"Throw everything including the kitchen sink at it!"

This would be an ideal tune too.

Tess uses the same "Look, Look, They ARE ON THEIR FEET" after almost every dance. 54% seems a bit low. I'll have to check next week.

This is correct! Take it as you were seriously crap if you don't get one!

But they can change the script occasionally

"Look Look nobody is standing. They all think you are crap"

If Tess said that I would take back every criticism I had ever made about her.

Well, the Standing Ovations have provided us with a new spectator sport here at phoebefair villas: who is the last one to drag themselves reluctantly out of their seat each week?

There was a classic yesterday - poor bewildered bloke finally stood up only to find the camera was right next to him.

Such fun

My friend went for the first time last night. She said the seats were so small it was a relief to stand up for the ovations and are uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time.

I've just worked it out as 54.6% so you are slightly low.

It's still better than the National Lottery where people are whooping up number 29, and number 33, and any other numbers whatsoever.
