How wrong we were! I remember and a lot of forum members(including myself) predicted a Lee and Shabnam relationship because of how interesting the dynamics would be. Funny thinking back because they haven't even shared a scene and it looks like Lee and Whitney are being set up to be long term(I do like them together) and maybe Shabnam and Kush will go somewhere. I actually think a Lee and Shabnam union could have been good viewing but having seen the two characters now, I don't think it would have worked

Had Lee been a good character it wouldve worked, sadly he has been awful.
Kush and Shabnam could be good together, Kush has certainly surprised me.

Agreed, I'd like Shabnam and Kush to become a couple

It was hilarious. A lot of posters were assuming they were going to be this big love story because of Lee's connection to the Army and Shabnam's religion . I had a feeling it wouldn't turn out to be the case as Shabnam is strict about dating a man outside her faith, so it would take a hell of a lot for her to deviate. The two still haven't interacted since Lee arrived on the Square . You gotta love DS sometimes .

I agree with the above, Kush and Shabnam would be a great pairing! The two actors seem to have chemistry together and I have recently warmed to both characters.

Lee is like another Tyler, especially since his involvement with Whitney.

Agreed. He is basically Tyler 2.0. I actually said this before when Lee first arrived, but some of the Carter fans kept denying this despite being as dull and uninteresting as Tyler. I honestly don't see the point of him. Johnny and Nancy are much better characters and fill the "Carter kids" quota, so there was no need to create him.

The only time he will get a storyline is when Whitney inevitably cheats on him (probably with Dean) .

LOL, I was one of those people who was convinced it was going to happen.

A religious holier than thou character like Shabnam who in her own words would never date a non-Muslim coupled with a solider, just seemed liked an opportunity not to be missed, surely. On paper, it seemed perfect and had Lee not turned out to be such a wet banket, it would have been.

There is no way in hell it would work now but with all the hype surrounding Lee before his casting, I was convinced he was going to be a great interesting character and that a potential romance with Shabnam would lead to all kinds of possibilities.

Watching Lee now, I'm relieved it didn't happen but I can't help but feel somewhat disappointed that with a better actor and much better character development, EE could have had something.

Oh well, it's no biggie. Shabnam has been a revelation and I look forward to watching her develop and seeing her story unfold.

I don't give a rats arse about Lee.

Wasn't Shabnam supposed to be blowing up buildings since she had been radicalised?

This wouldn't have happened considering Shabnam is 'racist' according to people on this forum

Love posts like these.

Just because she went to Pakistan and came back as a devout muslim who is strict about alcohol and dating people outside her faith, people assume she's been radicalised and turned into a racist extremist.

Posters are still suggesting that EG that she is a treasurer for a terrorist cell and has used the money for Tam's birthday gift That could be a joke though

I love Shabnam and though never bought the Lee pairing I can understand why it was suggested as it would have been a fascinating relationship. Still I'm looking forward to the development of her and Kush.

I agree with this, they could make him more interesting if he committed a crime in the army I suppose. They didn't have that option with Tyler, however considering Lee's "development" over the past 8 months or so I doubt it. It

Pakistan is a patriarchal society but I would never say it was religious. If anything British Pakistanis are far more devout than the Pakistanis back home. Places like Karachi ( where the Masoods are from) is very liberal compared to other parts.

Oh dear...

Lee is an AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL character! Danny Boy Hatchard is equally an AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL actor, possibly the shows worst male actor!

Shabnam is a great character, with so much potential, but IMO, the Masood's are nothing without Zainab!

Yes. He's equally as interesting! I was thinking he would go back on duty and be bumped off but it hasn't happened.

And rejecting true British values of drinking all day and sleeping around. How dare she?

Lee is a major disappointment. He could have spoken about his time in the army but instead he's just given romance, just like Tyler. Lee is bland and boring.

I thought they were going to go the whole PTSD route with Lee, but it didn't happen. I know they already did that with Grant but that was a long time ago now and it would've been better than sticking him with Whitney. The army backstory was a chance to set Lee apart from the dull "ladies men" such as Tyler, Joey and Callum etc.

Very true and well said, bebo. In that one post alone, you've shown far more than knowledge about Pakistan than a lot of posters on the soap forum . I think it's this image that the western media paint that all Muslim/Middle Eastern countries are ultra-religious and strict.

I don't think Shabnam is racist for not going out with a white person, or someone from another religion, at the end of the day that's a persons choice! I am a white person and probably would never date a muslim, I don't think there's anything wrong with that:/ Shabnam isn't racist for it!
