He tweeted last week that he wanted to perform one of the new songs from the New album but the BBC wanted a big hit from the 80's and wouldn't let them which pee'd George off but I have to agree that was a very lacklustre performance. George was in fine form earlier this year during his solo show!

Sad to say, but I really just thought he looked 'out of it'.

He wasn't great at all and wasn't it a bit odd that the pros danced a jive to that song?

Well I enjoyed it, but that's because the song has special memories for me - it was playing everywhere all the time when I first started dating my husband!

Have to agree Boy George seemed under the weather. I hope it was nothing more than the flu or something. On occasions he opened his mouth and no voice came out, and the way he was swaying he looked as if he might keel over.

Gotta love KFG's performance though, especially at the beginning. He's a star!

I can't think of another style that would have fit, but the contrast between BG's laconic laclustre delivery and Karen/Kevin + the rest's manic jigging was quite noticeable, yes.

He was, simply, awful! So sad to see.

Let's face it he's past it, he needed backing singers as his voice is gone. Why do the BBC bother?
We get so many "past it" performers, on the BBC's "top variety" show.

He's been rubbish whenever I've seen him on Later so wasn't surprised that his voice was off here. Was surprised at the lack lustre performance though. Perhaps it's because he didn't want to do the song? Maybe it was a little bit too frenetic from the dancers but it must be nice to partner people who really know how to shake it .. you can't blame them for giving it large.

It was his time, clock of the heart. He had to colour by numbers. White boys can't control it. It's a miracle he still earns black money. He went from luxury to heartache, unfortunate thing. Take control. I had to ask if we are victims, or do you really want to hurt me.
You know I'm not crazy.

They used backing singers when performing the song live in the 80s too.

Just very, very bad. The house band wouldn't be allowed to get away with showing such contempt for the audience.

Had to laugh when he sang...."I'm a man without conviction"

1) Because of the poor performance tonight.

2) I remembered he'd served a prison sentence.

I don't think I better say what he looked like.

Guys, as others have touched on it's not completely impossible he simply wasn't well, chest / head cold, flu, whatever. For as many years as i can remember he's sounded chesty when speaking so maybe a touch asthmatic as well. Also remember his legal (and not so legal) substance use over the years has no doubt taken its toll.

they're only human and have off days like anyone else.

Add George to the ever growing list of singers past their best that the BBC can just afford...
Andy Williams
Dionne Warwick
Tony Bennett

Yes, but they were were more (audibly) noticeable tonight.
The balance made it sound as if their positions on the floor were almost reversed.
It's a way to mask a weak voice. If he were ill, then he should have cried off.

For cryin' out loud we've got a "dance band" and four, sometimes five singers, so who needed him?
Hearing and seeing the band for once would have made a "refreshing change."

Very odd, not jive music at all. TBH I couldn't think of any dance they could successfully dance to that song.

As for the performance - one of those occasions when I just wished they'd keep to miming. At least it might not have sounded so flat. I understand from an earlier post that it was the bbc who insisted he sang one of his oldies; that being the case BG should either have accepted and sung it in good grace, or not gone on the show in the first place.

Jive was the only thing that remotely fitted to that song, and it just about worked.

Culture Club's performance was awful, but thankfully the pro dancers made up for it!

Sounds like he has a cold and bad throat, his voice actually sounded like it was going and is generally far far better than that.

Sulky beggar. If you're paid to do a job then have a better go at it than that.

I was considering buying tickets to see Culture Club but after that performance I won't bother.

I disagree. I think SCD is as popular as ever, but sad to see Culture Club not at their best. I was a real fan Boy George didn't look well.

I though Aliona and Tristan danced the jive beautifully, but who put the itching powder into Kevin and Karens costumes? !!!!!
