I still contend that Judy isn't a 'celebrity' for her coaching. Is Leon Smith a celebrity?

It was Louis Smith chosen for Strictly, not his coach Paul Hall. It was Victoria Pendleton, and not Scott Gardner or Shane Sutton.
Part of me agrees with BIB- but the same should be said of Abbey Clancy. Before she married Peter Crouch, outside of modelling she was known only to people who watched Britain's Next Top Model. Models in the normal run of things are rarely known to the wider public. She only became famous by marrying a famous sportsman.
Of the two reasons for becoming famous- marrying a sportsman or being instrumental in helping a sportsman get to the top of his profession- I prefer the latter.

Don't hate her, like the fact that she is clever, funny and can laugh at herself. Much better than Widdecombe. However, just for those reasons alone I cant vote for her. Her dancing needs to improve a lot.

You have a point re Abbey, though she'd also done some low level TV presenting and had a fashion slot on This Morning. However, I'm still reeling from Series 6 where, in Strictly's world, Lisa Snowden (Special K and Lynx deodorant) was a 'supermodel' and Jodie Kidd (haute couture for Chanel, Valentino, Givenchy, Balmain and St Laurent) was a mere 'model'.

I'd say the precedence of being well known by virtue of being associated with someone more famous was set by years ago by Penny Lancaster. Jo Woods is another I can think of from the top of my head. All of them have a public personna, but would not be in the media nearly as often if they were not connected to someone with a higher profile.

Judy is another, but at least I knew who she was when this year's celebs were announced.
