Isn't it just a way of using your iPhone to make contactless payments with existing NFC terminals?

So anyone with a means of making contactless payments can still do so.
One important aspect is the security which allows the contactless payment limit to be removed.

The issues android would have with this system is Apple use TouchId which is a very convenient security solution.

Although Samsung have introduced finger scanning, it is not as easy to use, and almost every other android phone does not have a system at all.

CurrentC sounds like a very backwards sounding system in turns of functionality.
Yep. But it costs the companies far less to use apparently. Apple pay looks to be aimed at making customers life easy and making apple a shed load of money. Its not good for vendors though.....

No need. That scare story was rolled out by the usuals when TouchId launched.

This year? Chicago, Washington DC and Orlando. There are some contactless terminals but I would not describe it as widespread.

Never been to Hicksville, but have been to Huntsville a number of times.
There are contactless terminals in pretty much all the same types of places you'd get them here. Supermarkets, pharmacies and fast food places. There have been since around 2008. You've just not noticed them. Of course they are harder to find in small businesses. Buy that's the same here in the UK.

I think making spending money easy is very good for vendors.

I think the most interesting story to come out of the ApplePay function is the vendors future attempts to remove the credit/debit companies out of the loop. Interesting group of people for the vendors to attempt to upset

They don't even have Chip and Pin so it doesn't surprise me.

I'd say we're further behind in contactless payments though?
They are moving to chip and signature next year. We have the second highest Penetration of contactless cards after the USA.

Any NFC terminal will accept Google Wallet & Apple Pay... if you can use a wireless payment card, you can use your iPhone with Apple Pay.. So no bespoke iPay terminals needed. McDonalds etc are just making theirs Apple friendly i.e. gives user confirmation in an Apple approved way LOL

But short of Apple making TouchID available to everyone, I don't see how they are limiting anyone's options. In terms of terminals, presumably they are ready to be made use of in the exact same way as Apple are making use of them, should they choose to do so.

I assume there isn't a lot to it, as I hear a lot abut how NFC has been around for ages, and Apple don't innovate etc.

Thanks. I had assumed something specific in the approved API's or similar.

CurrentC has been hacked and tester info stolen. The CurrentC hacking attack may have been carried out by one of these outraged Apple or Android fans – MCX isn’t giving any more details as yet. Alternatively, it could stem from someone eager to find out more about the security systems CurrentC uses.

The CurrentC system uses QR codes scanned by the purchaser for payments, and links directly into the user's bank account or credit card. That's good news for retailers, but would also seem to make the system a prime target for financially motivated hackers.

Surely it depends if the hardware is bespoke to the apple pay process or whether it will handle other NFC calls. (I don't know the answer to that).
Looking at posts on McRumors that is the case, people are just telling the cashier it's a contactless payment and it's working in places that do NFC but don't officially do ApplePay specifically (Home Depot has been mentioned a number of times as working IIRC).

You quoted an article running down a competitor to Apple.

Therefore aren't you defending Apple, and so a fanboy?

I thought that's how these discussions tend to roll?

See how stupid it is?
