Are the phone lines open long enough for a proper vote? "The X Factor" are open so much longer as they don't have to record but still, its hardly any time!!

Do they charge more for the calls so want to maximise their profits?

The BBC don't make any money from the vote. The costs only cover running the premium number.

20-25 minutes is always the peak time for voting in this sort of show. Any longer than that is only useful for getting as much money from the public as possible, which for the above reason isn't terribly helpful for Strictly.

They don't really care how many vote.

It all has to be "done and dusted" to be able to record the results show, giving the audience sufficient time to get transport home. There are I imagine, also "on-costs" for using the technicians beyond particular times.

I feel the BBC have done as much as they can to help with voting by providing three free online votes. I don't know of any difficulty people have had with accessing those, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there.

The reason the phone lines are not open longer because the show is done in one night but the results show is filmed and shown on Sunday. It really annoys me when they say "on last nights show" .

The free online voting must have cut back demand for phone lines. I love it. So easy. Vote twice on my phone and on my laptop.

Please don't take this the wrong way OP but I was wondering if there was a latent question in there about whether the results might differ if the lines were open longer. I'm not sure that would be the case?

I know this might sound silly but I can't help wondering if the new slot before doctor who is having an effect .
I have only watched the last three series of strictly but I really enjoy it but the rest of the household are male and my two grown up sons loathe it with a passion . when it followed Dr Who we would watch that with our tea and then I would watch strictly but now I am ending up watching part of it before Dr who as everyone else wants to watch that and the rest on sunday evening before the results show , so I don't vote as I have not seen all the dances.

It was the ITV programmes that I wondered about as they are there to make money so the more telephone calls, the more profit.

Presumably they can monitor traffic levels on the phone lines so know how long before it starts to drop off.

I think if lines opened at the beginning of the show, like they did in the past (at least in Season 3 that I'm re-watching now), then it would help the people who dance in an early position on the night.

I am interested in how much dance order, and judges' rank do or don't influence the voting.
