I don't think that the music influenced it one way or the other. It was the lottery of a public vote that did for Thom. Several years ago, we had John Sargent, who was about as inept a dancer as any of us will ever see. He was also a really nice guy, however, and everybody liked him. So many voted for him, keeping him in week after week, that there was a danger that he might actually win. Eventually, he did the honourable thing and left of his own accord lest he make an inadvertent mockery of the show.
If the public voted purely on ability, neither Thom nor Simon would have been in the dance-off. Neither is good enough to win, in my opinion, but both are streets ahead of Scott and Judy. I can only assume that Scott's Radio One fans are keeping him in while Judy is supported because of her much more famous son. I can see Judy Murray doing a John Sargent if she progresses much further. Not so sure about Scott.
