When Missy said she was the Time Lady the Doctor left behind abandoned, I was convinced it was going to be Romana. When she later said Missy was short for Mistress, I thought the next line would be something about K9. Until then I'd thought she was some sort of future version of Clara. It was so glaringly obvious that she would turn out to be the Master that I think a great many people would have overlooked it.
Intrigued and excited now to see how this plays out next week.
And 50 years of heritage just got trashed as Missy is the Master. How conceited of Moffatt. Absolutely hated the revelation. Romana or Rani yes but not this
What was the point of the episode. Found it very disturbing and upsetting. As someone who has lost her mum recently I found it very upsetting and sick to mention the dead are still alive when they are cremated. Those words will haunt me. Thanks steven Moffat that is not entertaining and I worked out a few weeks ago that missy was the master so obvious. You can not bring back the dead and the doctor should not go there
42 minutes of filler for the finale, and two big reveals. Already knew about the Cybermen, now Missy is the Master. Whatever, I doubt we'll ever see a female Doctor. Too close to stunt casting
Making her the Valeyard would have been more interesting
If Moffatt can explain how the master escaped, why she is on earth, why the cybermen are converting the dead, rescue danny pink, and foil the masters dastardly scheme -- all in the space of 45 minutes, I'll eat my hat!

Didn't necessarily regenerate into a female, maybe he took over a female body?

No, a lady lifted his ring, then he was 're-born' out of a ceremony after that. Last time we seen him he sent the Time Lords back to their time.

This is not new news it was already established in The Doctor's Wife that Time Lords could change sex with the Corsair (and non-cannonically in Big Finish's DW Unbound: Exile)
Okay, how many people hated that? Because I actually quite liked it - far better to be the Master than the Rani or even Romana. Even reviewers weren't told it was the Master (those scenes were deleted from previews).
For anyone who's interested, here's my review of the first half of the season finale, which I actually quite enjoyed --> Link

Thank christ for that then!! Moffat really cheeses me off sometimes, lets hope that instead of regeneration, he stole the body a la Cassandra, there can NEVER be a female Doctor.

Or by making black as many of the same viewers have said if they make him black they will stop watching.
Or they could ignore the idiots and cast whoever is best for the show no matter of gender or colour.

For the first half of a finale, it didn't really get going for me until the last 10 minutes. Too much time was spent setting everything up with so few characters that it dragged for me a little in the first part.
Still not keen on Peter in anyway; his rudeness is just beyond annoying as the main character for me, it's just not right. clara's swaying emotions didn't make me feel sorry for her either if I'm honest, not at all consistent in this at all.
The whole reveal around the skeletons being Cybermen wasn't a surprise sadly due to the fact we knew they were already going to be in the episode so that was a bit flat sadly.
The CGI at times felt a bit iffy too but at least the directing was good. Chris Addison less so though....
Missy being who she was wasn't so much of a surprise either and it didn't give me a shock kind of feeling at all. The intentions behind the reveal were good it just wasn't done too well sadly...that's where the credits should have cut in, it would have been more impactful that way.
Overall it was ok but I'm oddly not too eager to see next week's finale which obviously is a shame...

yep that was my guess tbh
It might just be moffat giving people a kick in the wot nots missy dies and regenerates into someone else next week. I wouldn't be a bit surprised theres some huge twist linked with this.
Well, I really loved that! The cliffhangers were all amazing and I think the big reveal was played to perfection, but actually what I loved about this episode the most was how it toyed with the perceptions and expectations of the audience throughout - really terrifically written and plotted, imho. 10/10.

I agree entirely, especially with the latter post.
My parents died too young, long ago, but I still feel their loss.

I'm sorry that you've lost someone you love recently, but the goal of making The Doctor and Clara question what it means to be dead was meant to be a cruel and uncomfortable moment by that doctor guy [unknowably puppeted by 'Missy'] as prep for the Cybermen reveal.
Easily the best episode this series. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Started off pretty slow but got better and better as it went along. There is a lot of explaining to do like how the Master escaped from Gallifrey, when he regenerate, why he is using Cybermen etc
I can't wait for next week. If the quality holds up it will be the best finale of NuWho ever.

Don't worry next week is extended, I think to 60 minutes.
