I love watching Bhangra when it is done properly. Even if they were to use it as a pro dance, the pros only get a couple of hours a week to learn the pro routine, impossible to learn a completely new style and do it justice in that time, so I hope it is only a rumour.
Or maybe they could get a group of real Bhangra dancers in as the results show entertainment - be more interesting than washed-up has-been singers!!!! Slicked up Bhangra with women involved is much nicer. |

many thanks for this, I love this type of music and dancing and have done a course of "Bollywood" dancing, very energetic and much harder than it looks, thanks also for the Zozo and Sangere clips, I hadn't heard of them before but what great rhythm they have

Thanks for the link HW. That was so much fun to watch. I get the feeling that doing batucadas would almost be boring for those kids - too slow.

Bollywood is Mumbai produced slick musical film style music. All popular songs come from Bollywood films.
http://youtu.be/tRAPPUEFa4k?t=23s Bhangra is Punjabi (Sikh) folk dancing - mainly (only?) males and drummer dominant music. http://youtu.be/AY73yUSYtqo?t=1m1s I suspect we will see something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD-LFksC1Nc Anton will be the one to watch. |

I thought Bollywood was more akin to the Busby Berkley Hollywood Style (ensemble numbers) than to partner dancing?
Partner dancing (i.e. Salsa) is booming in Bangalore apparently. Fondling is widespread unfortunately. |

Yes it is. Usually with a hit song. They are song and dance numbers often set in the Himalayas or Goan beaches.

I am not keen on authentic Bhangra at all. Very noisy with a bunch of blokes jumping up and down an singing "Hey, Hey, Hey ... "
Slicked up Bhangra with women involved is much nicer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-yNQDmxvDw Also includes the most beautiful girl in the world lol Aishwarya Rai ....... a former Miss India and Miss World |

Have you ever seen the scene from 'Bride and Prejudice' ..... it is the early stage of a wedding party where the men 'attract' the women. I, personally, think the whole scene is fantastic and the dancing wonderful.

At the beginning of October I had a weeks holiday in France and managed to see an episode of 'Dance avec les Stars'. Thankfully a fluency in French was not needed, but the format was somewhat familiar, even down to the theme music, set and judges line-up!
It may have been a 'special' week, but the dances were very different. From memory and post red wine haze there was Bollywood, Flamenco, Bolero ( similar to Rhumba), African Jazz (think Lion King), Country Style (think barn/line dance) and Classic Dance ( think ballet, pas-des-deux and tights ). The other main difference was the scoring. The judges gave two sets of marks foe technical merit and artistic interpretation.Must look out for it again next time we are sur le continent! There was even a version of Bake Off. Janet |

Wow--GREAT idea!! Instead of clapped out singers trying to flog albums, they should feature all sorts of Dance Companies: eg--Bangra, Matthew Bourne, Cubano, Irish, E european, Greek, Flamenco, etc giving a taster of their styles. Brilliant!!

I've got the excellent Graceland CD, but had never seen this video, so thank you
I have several Bollywood DVD's and the song and dance numbers often go on for at least eight minutes which is very impressive .. BIB ... but I believe that kissing isn't allowed ![]() Google for "Eve teasing" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eve_teasing |

This dance style has been featured several times on Dancing With The Stars.
Because the regular pro dancers are not familiar with the style, a specialist is used for training. Good example, from a previous season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ah6qyeHGa0 I believe that this was just a couple of weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUPk3W7hpA4 |

I dislike synchronised smiling (I mean swimming) but these Chinese gymnast / dancer blokes are great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCyEr4jRHRY Amazing musicality and timing. And no Whirling Dervish Cameraman on Acid videoing it. I didn't get bored watching it as the BBC might imagine. |

The fondling I referred to is in real life salsa clubs (not to mention trains and buses). Yes no kissing on films but plenty of graphic sex in temples. ...
![]() Google for "Eve teasing" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eve_teasing ![]() by the way, has anyone heard of a form of "dancercise" called Just Jhoom ... meaning Just Dance ... it's "inspired by the glitz and glamour of Bollywood" and uses Indian dance moves and Bollywood music ... I've done a short course of this and have just bought the DVD so that I can practise at home |
