Or maybe they could get a group of real Bhangra dancers in as the results show entertainment - be more interesting than washed-up has-been singers!!!!”

I am not keen on authentic Bhangra at all. Very noisy with a bunch of blokes jumping up and down an singing "Hey, Hey, Hey ... "

Slicked up Bhangra with women involved is much nicer.

I thought Bollywood was more akin to the Busby Berkley Hollywood Style (ensemble numbers) than to partner dancing?

Yes it is. Usually with a hit song. They are song and dance numbers often set in the Himalayas or Goan beaches.

Partner dancing (i.e. Salsa) is booming in Bangalore apparently. Fondling is widespread unfortunately.

Bangalore is welcome to it - fondling that is. Any unsolicited fondling from anyone I dance with gets very swiftly dealt with.

Have you ever seen the scene from 'Bride and Prejudice' ..... it is the early stage of a wedding party where the men 'attract' the women. I, personally, think the whole scene is fantastic and the dancing wonderful.

Also includes the most beautiful girl in the world lol Aishwarya Rai ....... a former Miss India and Miss World

Yes that's good stuff. But that is Bollywood Bhangra and far from the authentic Bhangra at the beginning of that link which is blokes jumping up and down chanting "Hey, Hey" at 4 sec. Notice they cut away to the girls after just a fews secs. By 32 secs it turns into Bollywood Bhangra. The filmmakers know that the real stuff does not make good viewing.

It may have been a 'special' week, but the dances were very different. From memory and post red wine haze there was Bollywood, Flamenco, Bolero ( similar to Rhumba), African Jazz (think Lion King), Country Style (think barn/line dance) and Classic Dance ( think ballet, pas-des-deux and tights ). The other main difference was the scoring. The judges gave two sets of marks foe technical merit and artistic interpretation.

Must look out for it again next time we are sur le continent! There was even a version of Bake Off.

Agree French telly is appalling, but not seen this one yet. Would enjoy a few of the above categories--esp Bollywood, Flamenco and African jazz. Even wished Apache would make an appearance [though our pros brutally shoving lesser talented clebs across the floor like mops comes pretty close]. French version of 'Weakest Link' was the pits.

Wow--GREAT idea!! Instead of clapped out singers trying to flog albums, they should feature all sorts of Dance Companies: eg--Bangra, Matthew Bourne, Cubano, Irish, E european, Greek, Flamenco, etc giving a taster of their styles. Brilliant!!

Except that the BBC producers believe that viewers are not interested in dance. The 10 minutes (excluding faffin abaht) per 2 hour programme is even too much for them do they have introduced The Whirling Dervish on Acid Cameraman to take our minds and eyes off the dancing.

I have several Bollywood DVD's and the song and dance numbers often go on for at least eight minutes which is very impressive .. BIB ... but I believe that kissing isn't allowed

The fondling I referred to is in real life salsa clubs (not to mention trains and buses). Yes no kissing on films but plenty of graphic sex in temples. ...

This dance style has been featured several times on Dancing With The Stars.

Because the regular pro dancers are not familiar with the style, a specialist is used for training.

Good example, from a previous season:

I believe that this was just a couple of weeks ago:

I dislike synchronised smiling (I mean swimming) but these Chinese gymnast / dancer blokes are great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCyEr4jRHRY

Amazing musicality and timing. And no Whirling Dervish Cameraman on Acid videoing it. I didn't get bored watching it as the BBC might imagine.

thank you, that was interesting, it's amazing what you learn on the Strictly forum

by the way, has anyone heard of a form of "dancercise" called Just Jhoom ... meaning Just Dance ... it's "inspired by the glitz and glamour of Bollywood" and uses Indian dance moves and Bollywood music ... I've done a short course of this and have just bought the DVD so that I can practise at home
