Well, the first three of those did manage to travel full-time with the Doctor, and with Rose the going missing plot was dealt with - albeit briefly.

Amy didn't have anyone she really needed to make excuses to, aside from Rory (although since she did run off with the Doctor on the night before her wedding without knowing he could get her back in time, and then tried to snog him, I doubt she cared much) and then he found out about the Doctor and the all went travelling anyway. Their predicament with their friends in S7 actually arose BECAUSE they were trying to lead two lives at once and started to look too old.

Clara didn't have anybody until Danny Pink - and again, her troubles are due to trying to be a part-time companion.

Seems to me that full-time travel with the Doctor would be logistically easier, rather than more problematic.

Well by the end Rose's and Donna's family knew about the Doctor so they had no need to lie unsure about Martha's Family.

If you want to travel full time it may be easier just to be honest about him.

Clara did have her Dad maybe Step Mum and Gran plus the kids she looked after and their Dad that was one reason she had to go back as she looked after them.

So you either have to keeping going back to the moment you left and carry on your normal life or let them know the truth.

Also we have no idea how long Clara is gone for we don't see all of their adventurers she could be gone for weeks or months at a time sometimes.

Well I'd rather we spent some more time on those adventures rather than her being picked up and dropped off week after week.

It's normal to miss stuff it helps for the books to say it happened then they could still be doing 11-12 Clara books in 10 years.

I thought this thread was actually going to be about the TARDIS having a revolving door..

Nope and really I wasn't thinking of the difference between Clara hoppuing on and off and having a full time lodgers but more of the fact that many humans are getting access to it and some aren't making a big deal of it.
He doesn't seem to be wiping their memories or anything unless it's just implied.

As mentioned ealier in the thread, the viewers see people hopping abord every episode or two, but for those characters it must be a hell of an experience, even for some of the ones set in the future or other dimensions etc.
