Eastenders - Lola Pearce - "She's/I'm a single mum"
How many times does Dean Wicks have to give her a job! She is useless! Second time he has been made to be the bad guy!

He did that last time and she just argued and pestered.
This time she let him down, he was hardly going to treat her with respect! |

I like Lola but she can't expect to run off for weeks shirking responsibility and then waltz back into her job. Dean should have stuck to his guns. This whole "I'm a single mum" rubbish should be nipped in the bud. If being a mum is so important then show up for work and don't do a runner. Stacey's guilt trip was not needed and sends a bad message. One of many bad messages gladly embraced by certain entitled easily influenced viewers sadly.

It does make me laugh. How many of us could just take off and then expect to return to our job willy nilly? Just like when she asked for the job of qualified stylist when she isn't one! So he said no and was made out to be unreasonable.
Then again Dean only gave her her job back to impress Stacey. Good chemistry there but doomed for obvious reasons. |

Hardly a surprise that you're a single mum either if you put out for your own cousin as some kind of experiment, without taking precautions.
Alfie swanned off for less time than Lola and ended up unemployed. Surely she saw/heard about this? |

Lola has no shame at all. The way she beggs him makes her pitiful, especially after the way the rapist belittles her.

He's not wrong about Lola though. "she's a single mother" - DON'T DESERT YOUR JOB THEN!! |

Why was the actress off screen for so long? They gave her a gone away story rather than just not having her appearing so there must have been a reason

He was made to be the bad guy by Stacey, also a single mother.

The recruitment policies in Albert Sq are not remotely like the real world, like they just saunter around demanding employment.

I know he is a rapist but doesn't stop him from being the guy in the right in this situation.
It's a shame they didn't go down the prison rape plot rather then making him one. |

But the "I should be allowed to get away with anything because I'm a single mother" crap is tiresome in the extreme but she has got much better about it (she was dreadful for it when pregnant) and she isn't alone. Everybody seemed to think that Kat shouldn't be punished for perjury because of Tommy and the twins, Stacey was encouraged to go on the run and appeal her sentence because of Lily etc, etc. |

Whilst I like Lola and am glad she's got her job back (if only to avoid the OWDOIFEEDMEKIDS roundabout like Bianca before her), her and Stacey's attitude was awful.
"She's a single mum..." *stares blankly like nothing else needs to be said* So what It wouldn't matter if she was the Queen of England, she's not entitled to a job because she chose to have a child. Especially one in which she's proved unreliable in the recent past.

She practically has Jay and her child won't be taken away and now has her ideal job despite lack of qualifications.
No wonder Abi Branning is annoyed at her haha. |

Whilst I do basically agree with what you are saying (people can't just not turn up to work for even days, let alone weeks on end without prior agreement - unless sick of course - and expect their job to be kept open) Lola didn't just go off in a whim. Whe went because the father of her child, a convicted killer showed back up and she was scared pressure would be put on her to give Lexi up to him. If she calmly explained that to Dean he might be more understanding.
While Lola is a single mum, she has it a lot better than Stacey does and Bianca did. She may not want to ask Phil for help for fear he'll take over again, but at least if she was really in a mess, he would be there and Lexi wouldn't be in care. If Stacey or Bianca didn't work, their children would be in care or perhaps in Bianca's case, split up while Ricky got Liam and Tiffany and Ray could claim Morgan. |

She's reaching Bianca levels of annoyance with her "me kids" stories and overinflated sense of entitlement.

Putting aside Dean being a rapist, he's running a business and he was right the first & second time, he needs efficient and reliable staff which Lola hasn't been, she can't disappear for weeks and then turn up and expect her job back it wouldn't work like that in RL nor should Dean of been guilt trip in giving it back to her twice, just because she is a single mother that old line annoys me to high heaven, you don't turn up you get the sack simple as.

Definitely this. The "Phil's a control freak, he'll force Ben to be interested" line would have worked with Dean I imagine, seeing as he probably blames Phil for Shirley's current predicament. It'd be better viewing than "I'm a single mum" too.

Yeah, "I'm a single mum" line is so out of order. She should have thought about that before throwing away a perfectly good job through her own incompetence.
