Appreciation threads
tomorrow
20-03-2005
I don't know whether I am looking forward to viewing this forum this BB ... seems like its going the way of some other well known forums with each one having 'Appreciation threads in which XXX may not have a bad word spoken about them" ...

Anyone know how many new HMs this year will we see? 10, 15, more ???

How many HMs have there been in total - thank goodness Appreciation threads were not about since the beginning of BB ... the first 5 or so pages with nothing but appreciation threads ....

Appreciation threads are the one thing I REALLY dislike on DS - they are childish and imo, people would be better finding dedicated fan sites or creating websites

For or against them? What are your reasons?

I think it's OK for fans of a hm to have a thread that they can read without seeing their favourite hm being slagged off. There's plenty of threads that will be doing that

There were a few Appreciation Threads last year but none of them dominated the Forum in any way whatsoever. They all generally kept being pushed off the first page by other threads being started.

There were also quite a few Anti-Threads for several contestants which seemed to generate more interest that the actual Appreciation Threads themselves.

Generally there is usually so much going on in the BB Forum when the programme is on-air that you won`t even notice the odd AT.

It tends to be multiple threads on the same subject that clog up the Forum..........just my opinion.

Roll on Mid-May and let the fun begin!

Agreed - I'd hate to see this forum deteriorate like a certain other BB forum .... I joined DS as it all seemed more fun, civilised and constructive!

I also think once BB starts, they'll be more important things to discuss than the topics currently on this forum (can't believe my Jade thread is still going!!!??? ) Let's face it, there's not many BB things to talk about at the moment - so it's like we've entered the 'silly season'!

Stick with it - you know it will get better!

Unfortunately you can't have one without the other wether you dislike/like a housemate someone is always going to have a different view from you so if people insist on starting anti-housemate threads it's only right that someone with a different viewpoint is allowed to express their views.
I understand what your saying but how long would people wish to post on an open forum that you are only allowed to express on one form of opinion on someone. the only other way would be to have a dedicated thread to each housemate permanently on the first page where fans of that housemate could post.

Appreciation threads are all well & good if they remain that way. We've seen it before, particularly on the BB forum that when these types of threads are started you seem to get 'Anti' supporters enter the threads just to stir things up & you end up with people getting personal with their comments & eventually someone like Beth has to step in to close the thread down because things get out of hand.

The 'Anti brigade should start up their own 'Anti-appreciation' thread & stick to that but this happens only to start with but doesn't last.

Without singling the 'Anti-brigade' out, it's also true in reverse, when the 'Pro supporters' visit the 'Anti-supporters' threads, maybe the solution is to call a truce & each stick to their own threads.

I too enjoyed the threads of BB4 (yeah - something I enjoyed about it) and the like, where there was sensible conversation... last years BB and CBB just got a bit insane with the lovers of certain Housemates. I just hope DS:BB hasn't really become a victim of it's own success.

But that is the crux of the matter ... in appreciation threads, defence is not a requirement - look at what is happening in the Pop Idol forum ... not a bad word may be posted about who the thread is for .... on threat of banning if you dare! (This supported by DS)

ps ... I generally tend posting in Appreciation threads - they really are not what a discussion forum is all about imo ... that's what fansites are for .... ain't it?

This is a fansite as well no matter what the intellectuals say.

Can't you just ... not read them?

And why would the first 5 or so pages be nothing but appreciation threads?

I think the forum is so relentlessly negative, especially about
certain HMs, that appreciation threads are a good idea.
And if an appreciation thread turns out to be silly and
childish, it can always be ignored.
