Duffy's version and Imelda Mays version makes me think it will be fine as jive

No .. it's a ghostly song so apt for the theme I think .. though Hammer Horror would be better (couldn't do an AS to it though.) Not that I want to be picky but Cathy is pleading with Heathcliff in the song .. so it's the ghost singing

Actually .. it's just dawned on me .. are they using the Puppini Sisters version? I can see an AS working to that more and the band won't have trouble.

Yes .. that must be it.

Scott as Gomez, Thing or Lurch? I vote for Lurch.

I think I like them all except Poison, which is the more 'meh' of the rocky Pasos. Danger! High Voltage I could go either way on, and Defying Gravity seems... weird.

Pixie has tweeted about doing Tango training so I think the Paso listing is a mistake.

Alison and Aljaz - one of the weirdest song choices I can ever think of on Strictly. I suppose it makes more sense that she's flying if she's doing an AS than a Charleston. It could be so bonkers it's fantastic. But it feels to me like turning Alison into an Anne Widdecombe joke - but I'm hoping Alison and Alijaz wouldn't go along with that and know what they're doing. And if they're going to do it I hope they do the Kate Bush version. No offence to people who like them, but that Puppini Sisters version is just - not for me. I suppose the choice has worked in a way, in that this is now the dance I am most curious about.
Caroline and Pasha - Disco samba but I'm sure will be no problem for them. A safe choice.
Frankie and Kevin - Great costume for her. I can't hear it as a tango but I'm sure they've found a way to do it, and I think it helps her to have a song from a musical, so it already comes with a story. Shame it's not proper tango music though.
Jake and Janette - I think this will work. Looking forward to this. But it won't be the dance of the night because obviously that will be Judy.
Judy and Anton - Best choice by a mile, if just for the costume. She'll be a brilliant Cruella. Safe this week again.
Mark and Karen - Should be fine. Another safe choice.
Pixie and Trent - I'd love proper tango music but I love this choice. Think it could be great.
Scott and Joanne - good Halloween song. Haven't they done a group dance to this? I have some vague memory of Jason Donnovan in a bald cap.
Simon and Kristina - I think Simon has the less good paso song, especially as a rock VW didn't work for him. He's going to have a different kind of performance this week than anything that he's shown so far. He needs to be serious but compelling - if he can do that could be OK, but he is in direct contrast with Jake.
Steve and Ola - seems really slow and repetitive. Hopefully they are altering it to make it work as a Charleston. I hope this was chosen by the producers because they knew how to make it work as a Charleston and not just so Steve and Ola could go to the Natural History museum in the VT. Fingers crossed.
Sunetra and Brendan - I think the Gloria Jones will be fab and suit her, even if I can imagine it isn't that easy to jive to.[/quote]

As I mentioned earlier, in the Kate Bush version, there's little attempt at rhythm in the first 48 seconds. Does this mean if this version is used, there'll be as Len would say, "a lot of faffin' about?" I'd say this will be even less suitable than was Eleanor Rigby. I hope the BBC aren't going to, "Dawn French" this.

I've no time for the Puppini sisters, I think their harmonies live are often suspect, they're no Andrews Sisters/Boswell Sisters, or even Manhattan Transfer.

How on earth Frankie and Kevin are going to do a Tango to Defying Gravity I have no idea - it's a brilliant song (as long as the singers don't butcher it), but Tango music it most definitely is not.

Also, Pixie has confirmed she has Tango - the Paso reference on the BBC site is a misprint.

My mind still boggles at how different songs can be all kinds of different dances; "Black Betty was a (bloody fantastic) Quickstep on DWTS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVmyXDmtkzU

So Frankie's been lumbered with a song that makes no sense again, while Caroline gets probably the most suited song to her dance out of any couple on their. The producers are really pushing Caroline and Jake aren't they?

Since the training clip we saw on Wednesday's ITT of Caroline's Samba was actually Disco, it is maybe not that suitable. So far Pasha has been very good at packing in as much choreography as possible of the dance they are supposed to be dancing. For him to go away from Samba and include Disco does not make me think its that suitable. Its not even a Halloween song, so like a lot of the other songs, it looks like lazy music selection to me.

Well, the "conspiracy theorists" might say that Jake works for the BBC and they're lining Caroline up for another job.

Frankie was the first celeb announced, and they put her with a runner up pro. The song might be strage for a tango (barring suitable rearrangement) but it seems like one that is highly popular. I don't think she's exactly had a raw deal.

Quite a few work for the BBC though in some capacity. I think the music choices are pretty rough all round but then I would scrap this Hallowe'en lark (and by that I mean at my front door as well!)

I remember one year my dad had this plan to heat up money in the oven and carry it to the door wearing oven gloves. It seemed proportionate, but on balance I'm glad the village Kept Away

Those who celebrate Christmas, New Year, Easter and Halloween most, is the retail industry.

A bit early still but this is my favourite Christmas critique

having listened to all the music would say the best choice music wise is Judy's, Sunetra's and Mark's - the Gloria Jones version of tainined love timing is good for Jive. I think Judy will look great as Cruella and the music is a good foxtrot. Mark's music is a good jive too.

As a dancer although I like the song would never pick Le Freak for samba the feel is all wrong - it is just an out and out disco song.

Frankie and Kevs music seems weird but after hearing some of the remixes hopefully the band will be able to do something with it. Black Betty although not spanish enough for me should make a reasonable paso - was used on DWTS for Billy Ray Cyrus (although he was not good) Pixies music though not traditional has a good dramatc feel. Thy have said the Kay Starr version of Dry Bones for Stev and Ola which I find too slow but there are plenty of versions that you can pick a charleston out of so they too should ne ok

I disagree.

The producers are clearly tone deaf and do not know what appropriate music for each dance would be. They are a totally crass bunch.

They are choosing popular music with no regard to the dances. All the evidence suggests that they just would not be capable of matching the music to the dances.

That may all be true, but they also picked several songs that don't have connections to Halloween, so assuming they can read lyrics, I still think it was lazy.

THIS would have made sense for Steve and Ola, and period to boot.

The 20s did it all....why this obsession with not using the proper music for the dance??!!!
