1 Got new phone and installed THREE sim.
2 Phoned Asda to get PAC and gave it to THREE
3 All meant to happen yesterday

They said that I would get a Text from Asda waving me goodbye and another from THREE telling me it was all switched.

Not a bleep from either side!
If I phone from the old phone using the old number, it does ring the new phone, so looks like the old number has now been linked to the new phone. However, in the new phones settings it is still showing the old number - Is that right or should that change? (Been rebooted many times)

And how am I able to phone from the old phone when they should have deleted my account and have no number associated with it. However, the new phone says that it missed a call from the old number?!?!?

So it all seems a right mess of a transfer.

The number in the phone's settings may change, but if I remember correctly 3 doesn't send the required SIM update to do it.

Many phones will let you change this number yourself. What phone do you have?

If this was on the day of the transfer it is expected that stuff might seem not to be working properly as both sides may not have fully updated their systems. Is it still not right today?

Well if you phone my old number, you do get my new phone, so that part is right and helpful.
But if I phone from the old phone (which I shouldn't technically be able to do) the new phone says that I got a call from the old number as well. (So sounds like that the old sim card is still giving out the old number even if it doesn't receive calls on it any more.

So all in all, it looks like a half done job where they have changed it on a computer somewhere, but neither old or new SIM cards have been updated: The new phone still thinks it is on it's original number in the settings and the old phone is still sending out my old number as a caller ID.

My phone is a Chinese import (Infocus m512) on Android 4.4.2 kitkat and it won't let me change that setting that it obviously gets from the SIM card that hasn't been updated.

Wonder if there is a "Force SIM card update" option?

Oh just be patient and stop panicking. It's a two step process, and the other step hasn't happened yet. The SIMs don't need to update.

Normally the old SIM should stop working. Have you tried rebooting the old phone and seeing if it registers to the network?

There's nothing odd about about the old SIM giving out its old number (they won't change it to something else), but it is odd that the old SIM doesn't appear to have stopped working.

I remember changing the number on my 4.4 device but don't remember how I did it. You could try getting 3 to send an update out but this might be a bit heavy for their customer services to understand.

As long as calls and texts are coming through to your new phone on the number you've ported over (maybe test this from a friend or relative's phone to be sure), you can forget about your old service with Asda. They will eventually get around to deactivating the Asda SIM.

Your new phone may well always show the original number that was allocated to the new SIM.. I've ported my number several times over the years and it's always been that way for me. It's not a problem and won't affect your service in any way.

Thanks for the informative posts.

Reading around it seems you can edit the sim card and change the number if you can find a sim editor app that actually works. Don't think I'll bother!

HA HA! IRONY! And as if by magic, whilst typing this very post, Asda has turned off my old sim in the old phone.

So only the wrong number problem remains and I might do something about that later (maybe)

You don't need an app, many phones allow the number to be edited. What phone do you have?

Provided it sends the right number out when you call someone and you can remember what it is without having to look at the phone then does it matter?

Though I can sympathise if you can't remember the number as I nearly always have to look my own number up on the phone if I need to tell someone what it is Though oddly I can always remember the number for my work mobile, go figure

One that doesn't allow SIM card editing!

But I've just got an App that has changed it.

So all done now! Thanks everyone!

Fortunately I have a mobile number that gets a "Oooo! That's a nice number! I wish I had that" response from everyone I give it to.

That's why I ported it!

Some iPhone and Android apps use the stored SIM number (e.g. whatsapp), it's a minor inconvenience to have to type in the correct one each time.

So it's worth the small amount of effort to get it changed.

iPhone apps would never use it as Apple doesn't allow them to.

Well, you can (and should) change the number in your Whatsapp profile

Settings > Account> Change Number
