Rachel Talalay Interview

From Den of Geek:

Quote:
“But how much of the build up to Dark Water and Death In Heaven are you catching from afar? Because you're thousands of miles away right now!

I am aware completely! For a couple of reasons. One is that I'm interested. I'm 1000% invested in it. The second is that one of my daughters is a complete geek. So she's on Gallifrey Base, and she's also very good at protecting me! We all know that there's no such thing as opinion on the internet. It's just 'you're an idiot, and that's a fact! If you don't agree with me, it's still a fact!'”

Oh boy Also her probable reaction to the Missy reveal:

Quote:
“It all happened so quickly, me getting the job. I read episode 11, the morning it came to me, as I left for the UK. I read it on the airplane and I shrieked! The other day when we were doing ADR, adding in the dialogue, the ADR technician slammed the console and said 'oh my God, really? Really?'

It was classic, and I thought yes, it's going to work!”

Set visitors agreed at the time that the reveal was added in ADR - so that guy must have got a shock

So from that I guess we can eliminate the possibility that Missy is a brand new character.

Unless they are actually making her God or something I don't think the reveal of a brand new character would get such a reaction.

So she's either someone from Classic Who that hasn't appeared yet in NuWho or she's someone we already know from the show in a new form.

Either the Rani or the Master (Mistress).

Can't really see it being anyone else, unless she turns out to be an ally, in which case Romana.

I dunno, wouldn't it be more shocking if actually Missy was Danny Pink from the future

Or something totally out-there, like the Doctor himself.
Or a female relative. (although that might make her initial "boyfriend" comment rather unsavoury, so... maybe not...)

Leaning more towards the Rani now, from reading some other threads

Yup pretty sure she is Rani having posted about her bracelets and the link to Deep Breath kind of... And Clara has been under her control somehow.

A certain amount depends on how well up the ADR technician is in Doctor Who. Unless he is a dedicated fan, I would have thought that "I am the Rani" would have been more likely to provoke the reaction "Who?" than "Oh my God! Really?" {The Rani appeared in two not very distinguished stories in the declining years of the original series, and the even less distinguished Dimensions in Time - the man in the street will hardly have heard of her.]

The most likely candidate, then, would seem to be the Master, if we are dealing with a named character. There does, however, remain the possibility that Missy identifies herself with a description, rather than a name, such as "the mother of most of your children", which might also produce the reported reaction.

Time will tell. It always does.
