OK I have to put aside my disdain for the term "dad rock" on this one.

I guess there really is a massive market for selling gullible baby boomers music they have already bought once before.

Patronising bollocks.

My disdain knows no bounds for this phrase.

I saw a "dad rock" thing on MTV or Kerrang (forget which one) on Fathers Day.
Basically, it was 70s and 80s hard rock, the sort of stuff I listen to daily on Planet Rock.

I can't stand the term "dad rock". Not all dads listen to rock. Mine doesn't. He listens to a The Carpenters, The Bee Gees, ABBA, bit of opera, some classical, German marching bands and some modern pop music (especially Britney and Katy Perry), amongst others. Pretty varied It's like saying all mums listen to safe, boring MOR ballads.

My dad listens to Irish traditional pretty exclusively. My mum is a bit more varied as she likes Rod Stewart and the Eagles

Take your mum to see The Ultimate Eagles. They are superb.
Fronted by Danny Vaughn, who I last saw fronting Waysted when supporting Quo back in the 80s!

Just googled them. The likelihood of them coming to Ireland is low. Shame really.

They only come to Wales about once every two years, which is a shame since a couple of them are Welsh.

Keep them on your radar. They are up there with Limehouse Lizzy.
I know tribute bands are a contentious subject, but these two are on top of their game.

LOL, my dad loves Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, The Rat Pack etc. The only act from the last 10 years I've known my dad to say "I like this song" was Scissor Sisters which even I was surprised by. Seemed quite random that my dad liked I Don't Feel Like Dancing. lol

Anyways, in answer to the question. No, "dad rock" won't save Christmas. It's just tabloid bollocks, probably written by a music snob who is basically writing an article on what music they would love to see do well over the festive season (I haven't read the article because...well, I can't be arsed tbh ).

So some "old" artists are releasing new material and other old stuff is being repackaged and resold....so nothing new there then. It's been going on for ages.

I suppose there's been a trend in recent years for reissues to come in "deluxe" versions with tons of extra material, most of which is rubbish (demos, outtakes, live versions etc.) to sell the product to an audience with a large disposable income but even that's been going on for a good few years now and it's not going to save the record industry from its inevitable decline in terms of physical sales.
