I wouldn't be. I would regard it as deliberately antagonistic and lazy. There is no reason why The Master needs to be female. Therefore, if Missy turns out to be The Master this will be the last series of Doctor Who I'll ever watch. I am adding a poll. Yes/No or Not Bothered. I like to keep things simple!

Yeah because what other villain could she possibly be or she top in terms of notoriety.

I think all the signs point to that character.

Her dressed in black, the hypnosis of Clara, the reaction to her reveal by the Doctor Who production team.

I think we are looking at a female incarnation of "The Master"

Michelle Gomez is a terrific actor, which is the most important thing, who I think could bring a fresh take to the role so I would be happy if that was the case.

I agree there is no other way of really bringing new life to the character really, I have really enjoyed her small cameo s so far and I like the play between playing it straight and amusing. I'm very intrigued by this performance.

Indeed. Michelle is terrific. That is something I am not disputing. What I am concerned about is the reasoning behind a female Master, if that turns out to be the case. It is deliberate to "test the water" because it is clear that a female Doctor is only a matter of time.

I do expect a big outcry if this prediction comes to pass because this could fundamentally change the whole concept of the show for many long-loyal fans. I do appreciate that there will also be some who do not mind too.

I would rather her be the master than a different version of Clara or The Doctor unless there's a really good timey wimey explanation.
I also think michelle Gomez is a brilliant actress and would be a great master, I'd actually rather her be 'him' than any man actor atm as I think it would really refresh the role.

If Missy is the Master, why on earth would she refer to the Doctor as 'my boyfriend?'
I can't imagine the Master and the Doctor EVER had that type of relationship ...

I also find it irksome that Missy isn't allowed to be a new character, but has to be a re-hashed version of a previous villain.

Let's have a little more imagination, eh, folks?

I'm not sure really. It would be interesting, and I suppose enough time has passed now since The Master's last outing. I don't know. I think I would feel a little underwhelmed but not annoyed.

I can't really put my finger on what I what I would find lacklustre about it mind. It might just be because it's been thrown around on here a lot. Everyone seems to be The Master of The Rani. Or sometimes River.

"Are you asking me out on a date?"
Never say never

The Doctor and The Master have always had a love-hate relationship. In "End of Time Part Two" The Master even sacrificed himself for The Doctor. The "boyfriend" term need not be literal.

Well, think the general consensus on Ms Gomez is correct. She's great, and am really looking forward to seeing her 'properly' this Saturday. The Master? It would be interesting, and being mischevious, the meltdown in certain sections of fandom would be a sight to behold. Haven't got a strong feelings either way, so voted 'Am I bovvered?'

Really can't see it myself. But will tuck into some humble pie if necessary come Saturday.

Voted not bothered.

Not because I have any objections to her being The Master. If she is great. It will be very interesting to see how the new dynamics work and how it is written. Hopefully not by getting bogged down with all the obvious 'Im a woman now' gags (written by men) every 5 minutes, but by letting the character BE The Master. It just so happens that the role is played a Woman.

If she turns out not to be The Master then great. It could mean a new returning character, be her a goodie or a baddie for Capaldi's Doctor.

No problems either way.

As long as she isn't River Song, River Songs daughter or River Songs daughter that turns out to be Amy Ponds daughter.....eh??

There. That was simple.

I'd be Grumpy.

Because I prefer it to be something more original.

I voted not bothered because it wouldn't anger me to be honest.

I'm hoping she's either the four letter name beginning with R...but more intrigued by the idea of her being a bitter Romana, would be fun to watch if done right

I'd be annoyed because it would be paving the way for a female Doctor, which I don't want.

Also, I think it would be being "clever" and "original" for the sake of it, rather than for any plot related reason, which I would also find annoying.

I wouldn't be bothered. I'd be more concerned about how they'd explain the character being back after being locked back into the Time War in the End of Time.

Of course, it wouldn't be the first time the Master had a (potentially) half-assed re-introduction after a supposed demise... (Mark of the Rani, I'm looking at you.)

But I'd love it to be the Rani. Moffat could actually make the character credible with some actual depth rather than the campy Fem!Master in Mark and Time and the Rani.

Wouldn't be bothered. But I'm convinced Michelle Gomez could sell it.

My instinctive reaction is 'No', but much depends on the way it's all handled. So I've gone for option 4, 'I don't really know at the moment'.

Oh.

I have to say that if the casting of a character would stop you from watching the series as whole then I question how in to the show you really are ..... ridiculous statement to make in my opinion ... I couldn't care less if it's the master or the mistress or even bloomin davros ! This series had been excellent and PC is a top top Dr and that's all that really matters

Wouldn't bother me either way and even if is it a test to see if a female Doctor could work as for me as long as they picked the right person to play him/her I couldn't care less what gender The Doctor is

You see it's comments like yours that really pee me off about the DW forums. Unless posters think in a PC, "modern" way then we're either "not into the show", sexist, racist, bigots, narrow minded and so on. My view is I do not want anything altered about how the show is. Yes there are regenerations but never anything fundamentally different. I have this opinion and it's mine to have, not yours to diss. If you think a female Master or Doctor is fine then thjat's your opinion. One you're entitled to. I have no issue with any actor or actress. Their capabilities are never questioned by me. It's the very essence of changing what the show is, to me, that I object to. FYI, I'm 46, and I have been watching DW religiously since 1974 and have seen all the previous episodes prior to that too. Is that being "into it" enough?

God, I hate patronisers. They really wind me up.
