Are you sure you're charger is OK - is it the original charger?

Does it say "charging" when you plug it in ?

What's Settings, Battery telling you? Any unusual entries? Have you installed any new apps lately that may be doing things in the background?

As for this site, it even makes my laptop huff with all the embedded ads, hover links and videos. The fans kick in and it often freezes up altogether (no other site does this).

It may not help your issue, but one of the features of Android L, which is due to be released OTA next week, is greater battery life.

Try turning it fully off and then charging it completely while off. Then turn it back on again and see how long the battery lasts on a fresh reboot.

If you're still only getting 3 hours or so, it means either you've got some dodgy app that is running heavily in the background (which Settings > Battery should be able to help with), or there is a fault. Is it still under warranty?

I recommend the Hudl 2. Battery life isn't spectacular but a bigger HD screen for that price is a no-brainer really.

The HDMI output will come in useful as well.
