You need to use WiFi when at home, and only use your O2 connection when you are out and about. Install apps and update them only on WiFi.

Or go to a costa or starbucks or other place with free WiFi.

Also make sure that things are not set to sync in the background (such as push EMAIL and weather etc) as this will use data.

Also how do you disable an app after use so that it don't drain battery

It sounds like you have a very limited data plan for a smartphone these days. Just 300MB isn't much you know!

http://oi60.tinypic.com/ftq8pg.jpg

See my screenshot above, just my apps updating used that this month alone and that would allow you nothing else. You can also see I used almost that tethering, heck I used 2/3rds of that just running some speed tests as 4G arrived in my area, 159MB on email and 138 just downloading some online newspapers.

I would say the minimum you need these days is 1GB, O2 really should stop selling plans like 300MB as it just isn't enough for any normal user. You'll have to try and disable apps and keep on wifi as much as possible otherwise you're going to go over your data allowance.

May I ask how much you are paying per month for the contract?

Somebody might be able to suggest a better plan/network as 300mb is a joke for a phone that's designed for streaming.

Like others have said you won't be able to stream anything with that data allowance.

You may have a 14 day cooling off period if you are still in it and might be able to cancel and change plans to one more suitable (I think one with at least 2gb of data if you are planning on streaming).

I see there is a deal at Tesco for the Galaxy S5 on T Mobile.

It's for unlimited data for £29.99/month but it's £100 upfront cost.

Went back to shop today to ask about a different contract they said come back in a months time then we'll do it then for you. They also said connect to Wifi for radio which I did and it still eats the data

Sounds dodgy to me and that it's like they are getting you to wait until you are outside your cooling off period (sometimes 14 days).

If you are outside the cooling off period you will have no legal right to change/cancel the contract.

So you are paying £5/month for the phone including the contract?

Is it just the contract that is £5/month (£120 over 2 years) and have you bought the phone outright (SIM free)?

Sounds way too cheap as I'm paying £37/month with Three for unlimited data over 24 months (2 years) and I signed up at least 6 months ago?

I'm frustrated with the phone, as I love radio apps. They said in shop connect to wifi for free usage at home, I and connected but still using data

If you connect to WiFi it won't use the mobile data so somethings wrong there. Also after a month the contract can't be ended unless you pay the remainder of the contract upfront.

Go into the wi-fi settings and make sure 'Smart Network Switch' is un-ticked - it's a feature of recent Samsung handsets that causes it to automatically use the fastest connection available, wi-fi or mobile data.
That could, potentially, explain why your data usage is continuing even when you should be connected to wi-fi.

Are you positive that you are connected to your wifi. With 300mb data limit you certainly should set the data limit in the settings. Also worth checking have you got download booster turned on. That combines wifi and data to download files.

A good tip, though it wouldn't apply to streaming and would only be a possibility if the OP were in a 4G area.

cant you turn data off in your settings if you're streaming radio on wifi?!
I've just ordered an S5 but with my current phone, if you have wifi enabled, it won't connect to data. You have to turn off wifi for it to do so.
Apologies if the S5 doesn't work this way.

Just disable mobile data.
