Sky's mobile phone service with Vodafone
Sky's are looking to launch a mobile phone service with Vodafone. They are currently doing a trial. Quote:
Sky is tipped to ink a mobile deal with Vodafone following a trial that saw the operator offer its mobile services to Sky customers. http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/news-li...-vodafone.aspx
If the trial is successful it could open the door to Vodafone supplying mobile deals to Sky’s base of 5 million customers. The trial, which targeted around 200,000 handpicked Sky customers, was launched last month. It was an extension of Sky and Vodafone’s existing trading relationship, which already sees Sky sell TV services to Vodafone customers. Sky and Vodafone are already discussing the next stage, which could see Vodafone launch a 4G mobile offering for Sky customers, sources claim. Another option on the table is an MVNO with Vodafone. |

Interesting - I know Vodafone have been looking to get into the quad play market in the UK but don't currently fancy any of the options available for merger & acquisition (they had interest in TalkTalk but their CEO wanted silly money), perhaps this is the natural progression? Cross sell each others products and see how big the demand is, then work something out further down the line.
Plus its another defensive measure for when BT inevitably launch their own mobile network to residential customers. |

Last I checked Sky are in more than 10 million homes so thats a lot more potential customers than the 5 million mentioned in the article.

Sky have 5m customers with a Sky telephone package so perhaps the article was referring to that number. |
