Okay, but the song was still a haunting rendition of the doomed Cathy's feelings for her lover and Kate Bush portrayed it that way rather than as Carry on up the Wuthering

I wonder if Annie Lennox had it as part of her contract that no one should distract from it by dancing?
I thought it made a nice change not to have any dancers |

Cathy didn't say, "Heathcliff, it's me Cathy, I've come home, I'm so co-ho-ho-old." either! |

I doubt it, she isn't that much of a diva.

I was glad there was no one dancing - i find it distracting as one minute the camera is on the singer the next its on the dancers, it never seems to work
![]() And sometimes they can't sing either. In which case it's also a relief to watch the dancing. |

The problem with Alison is that Alijaz will never be able to do lifts with her without doing himself a mischief, so there will come a day when they will have to go. I love the two of them as they obviously love each other, but, after Judy next week, it will be Alison (or should be for those 2, but who knows...)

This is the second time she has appeared with no pro dancers, so I suspect that's not merely a coincidence.
Obviously not been an issue on the USA version of the show |

To be fair, Kate Bush had never read the book when she wrote the damned song, so reading it doesn't appear to be a prerequisite of interpreting it in other media.

"I felt a particular want to write it, and had wanted to write it for quite a while. I remember my brother John talking about the story, but I couldn't relate to it enough. So I borrowed the book and read a few pages, picking out a few lines. So I actually wrote the song before I had read the book right through."
^^ Kate Bush's own words, in a 1979 interview for KBC. About 4 mins or so in. |

People should look up the Ukelele Orchestra of GB's version of the song.
It proves my point that a good song can survive being performed by someone else .... or even in a different style. I actually prefer their non-woo version. All credit to Ms Bush for writing such a strong song. Maybe if the Strictly Band hadn't tried to mimic the original. In fact, maybe they should do tango or paso versions of pop songs when they are made to play them. |
