I am not too sure if I am angry, disappointed or just plain amused by the entitled whining of some of the Doctor Who fans on here.

It seems a bit shameful when there are people in the world who have real things to complain about or suffer. There are people who are starving or in war-torn countries or in fear of their lives or under the pain of death for the sex, religion or sexual orientation.

Am I the only one who thinks someone posting,"a female Master, Moffat has ruined my life," or something like that are genuinely pathetic people?

The phrase "First World problems" is sh!te IMO whatever it's used for.

To be honest I'm just glad the master is back.
I still think Moffat threw this at people knowing the reaction and get ready for another reveal next week.

Yeah, and those things should be covered more on Doctor Who, it'd improve it hugely and raise awareness!

Where`s that thread, "My opinion is so important it deserves it`s own thread"?

Well this wouldn't fit into any other thread as it is about the Doctor Who fans who post rubbish like, "my life is ruined by Moffat," at any and everything that has happened this series.

I have NO problem whatsoever with the Master being female. I have no problem with Michelle Gomez playing the Master. In fact, I absolutely loved this episode...until the reveal. Not because I dislike the idea of a female Master, merely because the reveal itself was lazy.

Some folks act like they've never seen Channel 4

Agree with what you are saying to some extent OP, but why throw the accusations specifically at Who fans? What about equally obsessive fans of other Sci-fi franchises? What about people who moan about what just happened in whatever soap is on telly? What about the people who spend their whole night ranting about football?

The people whinging aren't genuine fans of the show. They're minds are closed and they have no imagination. Dr Who is fantasy/sci-fi and there are no rules.

I didn't like the episode, but can't complain because children are staring? Really?

And what precisely are you doing to help those people? I guess nothing . I don't see how your comment is appropriate.

Exactly. Also, it's a little unfair to assume these people aren't aware of real world issues and problems. It's just they are hardly likely to be discussing them on a forum specifically set up to debate a television show. People can be upset about that but also know it isn't as important as real styFf.

They would discuss real world issues on the forum if said television show was about them!!!

Most people can't make a difference to those things no matter how much they want to. Actually, that's probably a major reason WHY Doctor Who is so popular - the idea of being able to make a difference is nice even if it's not actually possible.

And yet you managed to put this remarkably similar post into the Dark Water thread:

Ok first, off, just because just because people are starving or suffering somewhere else in the world does not mean you are not entitled to be upset over something mild in comparison.

But I do agree that people are overreacting about The Master being a woman now, frankly I think it is a bit sexist that people are having such a reaction to it. What is wrong with The Master being played a woman?

As long as the writing is good and the actor is good (the actor is phenomenal IMO), I really don't see a problem. People just don't react well to change.

Posting on internet forums, it would seem. Slacktivism is where it's at these days.

Isn't whining about what other people choose to discuss on an internet forum the very epitome of what the intellectually unoriginal describe as a "First World Problem"?

Do staring children put you off your typing?

Some are overreacting, yes. But many more are just reacting. Then there are others who overreact and see every negative reaction on the woman Master issue as an overreaction.

The reaction is not sexist. It is normal. Even in science fiction, where all sorts of strange things can happen, this goes a bit far. It is an overreaction to decry all who object to the Master suddenly being a woman as sexist. Whilst I agree that the argument that James Bond cannot suddenly be a woman so why should the Master doesn't hold water (James Bond being human, not a Time Lord, and therefore not able to regenerate), I cannot see that anyone who prefers the Master as a male is automatically sexist.

This is true. Especially when the change is a bad one. There are those out there who believe that Change is Good, even if the change results in people being worse off. I don't. If a change is perceived as being for the worse, well, of course people don't react well to it. Just because something is a Change does not make it Good.

This.

In a SciFi / Fantasy show, absolutely anything is possible.
I've been watching since 1963, and just do not share the outrage of some of the people out there - in fact I find it slightly baffling and more than a little disappointing that certain fans are so rigid and hide-bound they cannot accept new concepts.

A lot are throwing around words such as 'I'm out' and 'I'm never watching again.'
Well, perhaps it is better they do decide to switch off if they dislike change so much.

Yeah "First World Problems"....because we all KNOW that gender bending is so well accepted in the third world...
