For a safe fluffy comparison, take the Doctor's discomfort with Jack's new immortal status in Utopia - he's still the same friend he always was to the Doctor, but the Doc doesn't see him the same. That's worth a moment of self-questioning.”

But isn't there a fundamental difference that people that go through trans gender realignment have always felt they were born into the wrong genders body. I happen to have a friend who has changed sex and that is how he feels. He is a man that was born in a woman's body by mistake. Is that how the Master is supposed to have felt through every male incarnation we have seen?
I have no issue with gender realignment. I'm sire mu friend who I have known for nearly 40 years would back that up. But I do have to admit that whilst I have no issue with Time Lords changing race (if they regenerate in a hot country, it would make sense for self preservation that they would have a darker skin to protect them from the Sun's rays and for 'camaflauge') I don't really see why they would change gender as a matter of course.
Doesn't mean they can't, just I don't see there would be any need or want for it as a matter of course. The basic character doesn't change from incarnation to incarnation after all.

Is it just possible that you can cry over a tv programme and have a firm grasp of your privileged place in the world? Every single worry I have is shamingly trivial compared to the worries of some people on this planet. I don't go around saying "my life is ruined" about anything, but I can't honesty think that it would make a difference to anyone if I did.
