A lot of them have been so good.

After the Cha Cha Cha and Salsa, the Samba is normally my least favourite dance.

But this year it has been mostly my favourite. Pixie, Jakes, Caroline's, steves.

What's happening?!

Cuban (Miami) girls have an influence on Samba? How does that work? It is a 9 hour flight from Miami to Rio.

Maybe it hasn't been rammed down this year's bunch of celebs that samba is a "really difficult dance" as it has been in previous years?

Samba comes from Brazil.

Cuba is known for son, salsa and - most recently - their own versions of reggaeton.

People being very pedantic on here. Didn't know a degree in Geography and the history of dance was essential. They are Latin dances and that's all that really matters,

Ughhh Tembleke and Gasolina was ubiquitous last time I was in Cuba (a while back now) got sick to the back teeth of it.

Nothing intrinsically wrong with it (good way of learning isolations I suppose) unless you are gagging for timba and a good old fashioned salsa!

Well it might seem so but if you were a Latina I don't think you would agree. Many ofhe various countries of Latin America have long traditions and distinct styles one from another. There is some sharing and cross over of course but there is the world of difference between a Cuban Salsa and say an Argentine Tango or a Dominican Bachata. In fact there is quite a difference between a Cuban Salsa, a Colombian salsa and a salsa as danced in Puerto Rico for example.

I am not sure it is fine to lump and entire continent and a diverse body of music under one vague label. It would be like lumping a polka and an Irish reel together and calling it generically - European dances I guess.

As an afterthought I have just started to wonder if Cali salsa has taken influences from street samba - anyone know?
