Oy! This is my local contestant you're on about

(it's nice to hear the accent of someone who is from relatively near to me, we don't get that too often these days).
I agree with James Jordan when he says that whatever Alison lacks in technique, she more than makes up for with performance. She's not an actress, but gets into the performance each and every time - and that is half the battle sometimes. This might just be me (as someone who is a non-Ballroom and Latin-dancer but not a non-dancer) but I'd rather see someone who is able to completely sell the routine, than someone who has technique but is devoid of performance. I'd say a good comparison would be with Simon - Simon can dance well, but he tends to struggle with the performance side of the non-fast paced dances. Sophie Ellis Bextor, Louis Smith and Gethin Jones have struggled too - Gethin and Louis were able to overcome that by the end (Gethin more so than Louis), but Sophie basically had her one standout performance dance and then couldn't crack it much after that.
Technique counts for a lot, I'm not disputing that. But getting into the performance is difficult too, and credit should be given for that. *takes off debating hat*
Getting back OT: I was so right about Simon's dance, I think this is the dance he needs to get back on track - he is so much better at the more fast-paced dances where he doesn't have to particularly worry about control or maintaining anything, he is very loose which is why dances like the Jive and Charleston really suited him. Frankie I've put down a party Latin for - she needs to get one out of the way really and show she can crack the bubblier performance side (she looked a bit awkward in the CCC). Paso should be Steve's best dance - his Tango was good and there's no question of masculinity with him.
*endeth long rambling post*
