How was it scuppered by 9/11? The single was released on 3 September 2001 and charted at number 2 on Sunday 9 September 2001 (chart dated week ending 15/09/01). At the time records nearly always entered the charts at their peak and it was no surprise when the single fell the following week, to number 3 behind 'Mambo No. 5' by Bob the Builder at number 2 (down from number 1) with the awful 'Hey Baby' by DJ Otzi taking the top spot. The week it entered the chart it was close to entering at number 1, selling 93,500 copies to Bob the Builder's (also a new entry) 102,000. The following week it was nowhere near to being number 1 or number 2.

The song that really did suffer because of 9/11, although in the US rather than in the UK, was 'Castles In The Sky' by Ian Van Dahl. Whilst it was never going to be a massive hit, it was slowly edging its way up the Billboard Hot 100 in September 2001 (it had been a number 3 hit in the UK a month earlier) but after the events of 9/11 it was quickly dropped by radio and vanished from the charts. It would later re-enter the chart but it never regained its momentum. It's an excellent song but the lyrics were considered by US radio bosses to be inappropriate after 9/11.
