The complaints are not OTT to those making them. If someone is genuinely upset by the cremation thing, or their child is, I would think it childish of someone to find that hilarious.

If someone is saddened by the gender change of a main character for no good reason, then the appropriate response is surely to sympathise with their disappointment, even if you don't share it, rather than to laugh at it?

I've changed the OP from 'hilarious' which was a bit over the top, to just funny! And I just have a feeling that both may turn out to be something else, from the rumours I heard.
Sorry if it's offended you, I thought you liked dark? If it scared someone's child I would be a bit sympathetic, but those with particularly sensitive children should really be previewing things before they let the child watch them IMO.

Yeah some kids are different I didn't care by the time I was 4 I was watching Hammer films I loved the Dracula ones the most by 7 I was into Freddy - Jason -Michael ect.

For a child who may have recently learned the concept of heaven and death after suffering a bereavement (children grieve too), it may have been horrifying to the child when discovering the idea that Moffat had last night. Dark is one thing, but remember there does need to be an appropriate amount of content suitable for the entire family and last night's episode may have over stepped the mark somewhat. And, how are parents meant to preview DW beforehand when they don't get access to preview tapes? There is no reason why a parent can't assume it was suitable, after all last week's episode was straight from a CBBC spin off show! People are different. Why do a lot of posters always forget that?

A lot of people who post on Mumsnet etc watch various things on their own, then let their children watch them on catch-up the next day.

I agree that occasionally some parents might want to watch some shows prior, but with Doctor Who there isn't normally a reason to do this is there? Mind you, in fairness I don't have kids and if I did I would have probably let them watch last nights without thinking it may be unsuitable. But, then I guess you have to ask "Was it actually unsuitable?" Answer: clearly for some people, yes.
