So what was going on with Clara at the start of Dark Water? Those post it notes everywhere and then the very odd conversation with Danny on the phone...

I thought she was behaving really strangely, but I'm guessing we are meant to think she was weighing up the two men in her life?

Or was there something else going on there?

She'd decided to tell him everything about her life with the Doctor.

Plus she was probably going to tell him that she was pregnant.

I don't think she knows she is pregnant yet. That will be the tipping point that stops her travelling with the Doctor. Especially when Danny stays dead.

If it pans out the way I hope it will, I hope Clara and Danny get something of a scene together...but more of a farewell than a reunion. He's died, it's happened and it should stay that way. Like Rose did for her father, Clara gets a few extra hours with Danny.

She ends up being pregnant, and knowing what it is like to have lost a parent herself she decides that the best option is to be there for her baby. She maybe considers staying with The Doctor for a while longer or something, but he insists she finds a life of her own as she's going to need it. Out of kindness, he leaves her, rather than the other way around.

Not sure how this ties into her appearance at Christmas - maybe it's a brief scene with her baby or something. If it's something of a proper role, maybe it'll be something more along the lines of a true last hurrah.

I hope in a way it pans out something like this, although I'd have loved Clara to stay on until Series 9.

See if this turns out to be the plot line.. The baby etc.. I will be disappointed. It does look that way.

I really didn't like the way she kept telling him to shut up. Strange way to start a conversation.

Yeah, but if she is pregos, that is gonna make her a boiling pot of emotion.

Combine that with the depression of Danny dying, and you get that extremely unsettling Volcano Ultimatum.

see if there's a link or some kind of connection

So Clara has been doing her own detective work? Searching for what? Looking for what?

How exactly do you tell someone - "Hey BTW, when you were quite small, the Doctor & I visited you and he planted the idea in your head that you should call yourself Danny and be a soldier, oh and I may have given you a small plastic toy soldier that you probably still keep with you and if I had just been more honest with the Doctor none of that may have even happened. No matter though, its all water under the bridge hey, cause I do love you all the same anyway and I'm sure it would have happened anyway even if we didn't meet you in the past"

I think that the big thing was that Clara had decided finally to choose Danny over The Doctor. The way she was acting certainly appeared as if she had been going through some internal turmoil about it, perhaps as if she was breaking dome sort of conditioning...Any way, it is very strange that just as she contacts Danny to finally tell him, a silver car appears 'out of nowhere' and seemingly kills him. Coincidence? I can't help thinking of the Doctors words to her in Deep Breath,

"Then there's a woman out there who's very keen that we stay together."

Keen enough to kill the one person that Clara would leave The Doctor for?

No way is Danny 'staying' dead. He's not even dead, in my opinion. We did not see him die.

Also we didn't hear the car crash, which struck me as odd. So if they want to make him not dead it's quiet believable.

I can't work it out properly, because the timey-wimey stuff always does my head in, but I think she was probably trying to fix the paradox loop that The Doctor referred to.

The Master's Matrix upload technology must grab people's minds just before they die - although not all of them have bodies they can be put back into, Danny's might be in one piece enough to reintegrate. That is, of course, if they can sort it out before he's cremated....

I think there's a good reason we didn't see or hear the crash, and not because of complicated plot twists, although that might still happen. It was to show Clara's panic, the dawning dread, Clara being isolated from being able to do anything about it. Otherwise, they could just be walking down the road together, and a terrible accident happens. But for this to work, Clara has to be 'not there'.

I think the way it happened has the advantage of allowing the writer to not make up their mind about Danny being alive or dead until the last page and they could change their minds without having to reshoot stuff. Flexibility is always good.

Yep, I think the fact we don't hear the crash is just artistic licence, so that we get to share Clara's dread as she slowly realises what has happened (even though I think it was obvious something bad was about to occur). I doubt there's anything more sinister than that. I thought it was done very effectively - I liked the way the subsequent scene morphed from her standing in the street in front of the accident into a number of days later with the memorial wreaths at the roadside and the eulogy at his funeral - effective and economical.
