Well, it's always lovely to see that stereotypical bigotry is alive and well on DS.

Normally love her voice; even if not a rabid fan, have seen her live, and Touch and Savage are two of my fave albums.

But that was a really underwhelming performance which didn't do the song any favours or justice. Like another of my favourite singers, Bjork, the live voice doesn't seem as strong as once was .

I thought she was wonderful, and I personally love her dancing

She has always had her own style and idiosyncrasies which are part of what go to making her such an interesting person. I would hope by the time she's reached her age and lived the life she has she doesn't give two hoots what people on the internet think of her

Her performance gave me goosebumps, and I didn't miss there being a pro dance to accompany it at all. I usually find the pro dances that go with the music acts a tad cringe-worthy, to be honest, although they often do provide a much-needed distraction from the singing (not needed in Annie's case)!

As an Irish person who loathes and despises the IRA and all the other terrorists that we've been plagued with, it makes me like her less. What a thing to say to people who had paid to watch her.

I'm sorry, but I find your post highly offensive.

You actually like her for labelling ordinary people, most of whom will have had nothing to do with the IRA, as being involved with them?! That's appalling.

As someone who grew up with the effects of the IRA and the Troubles, I knew a lot of people who didn't experience it first hand had an ignorant and one-dimensional view of the whole thing, but that just about takes the biscuit.

Most ordinary people had nothing to do with the IRA (or equally the Loyalist paramilitaries) or what they purportedly stood for. And it's hugely offensive and insensitive to suggest otherwise.

Sorry for that rant, it's an issue very close to my heart and I never thought I'd see such vile comments on a forum like this.

The original, completely OTT and totally right for Halloween version. There's an amazing bit of 1960s footage of Jay from the Merv Griffin show on You Tube, showing how Annie should have done it!

I've no problems with anyone liking Annie Lennox.

But to call her a "Diva" or "Amazing" is just indicative of a very narrow appreciation of popular music.
She was never anything more than "average." Lot's of singers similar in ability to her and as good in their own way. But a hell of a lot more, far better.

Can't have Robbie until the next time his wife's in labour.

This hits the nail on the head.

Have you heard her rendition of Summertime? It is so out of tune it brought tears to my eyes. Not in a good way.

The album will be Autotuned to death but there's a live version on Youtube and it really is dire.

Definitely the Emperor's New Clothes. Shouty, squeaky, and not very tuneful.

And yes, I am a singer, thanks very much.

After Boy George and Tony Bennett, it was a relief to have a singer on that can still sing!

She was good, not great, but good.

...then have you heard her version of September in the Rain????

It's awful!!!! Her voice is Shouty and harsh and the piano is all ploddy!

I know she likes to have her voice laid bare and all that, to be pure and not Pro tooled etc, but pleeeease!
This new album is a no no for me.

It's both sad and annoying. I'm a bit younger than her and she and Grace Jones were my heroines - I'm tall, blonde and strong and have a 'dark' voice too.

But Annie has been disappointing for about ten years now, and I cringe at it.

Glad Grace can still thrill a bit.

September in the Rain is from 1937. A Warren/Dubin composition.
It's been recorded by "the world and his wife" since.
It's the sort of tune well suited for ballroom.

This is how you should sing that song. Recorded in 1961.

Sadly there'll be some on here who'll have never have heard of her.

Absolutely this. For someone who is really only famous for being a singer in a pop band, she's definitely got delusions of grandeur and disappeared up her own rear end at least a decade ago.
In a humourless, pompous tw*t contest against Sting, I reckon it would be a dead heat

Not heard her version of September In The Rain, I'll have a Google.

I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought her performance was bad. I am the first person to stand up and applaud a great performance, I don't have any sour grapes or bear any grudges, but my ears can hear when a tune is a tune and when it's just a shouty mess.

Sometimes, an artist can perform a song and it isn't the most note perfect piece ever, but they perform it with feeling, emotion and meaning. Annie Lennox just thrashed around a lot for effect, in 'look at me' mode. She might have had the voice for pop in her day, but it is very exposed when she tries to perform anything where she has to hold a note.

This is just nonsense surely .. is it likely that she'd want to do a gig in Ireland if she felt that? .. is it likely she'd have anyone left to sing to if she'd said it?
Blimey .. people will hang you on very little evidence these days.

I don't understand what you are saying

I was responding to a poster who said they liked her better for calling her fans at a Dublin gig, IRA Bastards.
Now whether or not Annie Lennox said this is not known, (I honestly doubt it) but what I find offensive and downright insane was the posters response...
