Told ya.

Those old songs have such beautiful words and melodies [which is why singers in their droves do cover versions of them] and I know its all down to personal choice what voice you like to listen to or don't like to listen to, but shouldn't the singer try to make you FEEL the words?
This collection is all hard and brittle. No softness to reflect the lyrics of the more romantic songs.

Annie, in the words of one of your own songs.....

WHY?

Well fair enough .. I probably got my quotes muddled for which I apologise.

I thought she was the best 'superstar guest' this far. She delivered a vintage Annie Lennox performance not some pale imitation.

Blimey .. people will hang you on very little evidence these days.”

I know what she said. I was there. She thought she was being "edgy and humourous " no doubt, but the torrent of abuse she got ( not to mention flying objects ) left her scuttling off the stage in a bit of a hurry.

Oh yeah.....A Day at the Races, Pheonix Park when the British acts were getting heckled and having bottles thrown at them.

.l was there too actually.........some in the crowd were shouting "F off you British bastards" and throwing fire crackers as well as bottles. That was what prompted her tirade. She gave as good as she got and I dont blame her. That's when I really started liking her!!!! So did Bono apparently because he invited her on for a duet with him at the end!!!!

Can't stand her. She's like the female Bono.

Time to retire Annie.”

I must admit my heart sank when it was announced that it was Annie Lennox as guest singer - again. However, I was ready to listen - and I was totally underwhelmed. I guess if you're a diehard fan you'd like anything she did, including this performance, except for the more discerning fan such as the above poster. I have no idea why she was the only one not to have pro dancers. Very odd.

Good post. I too find her a cold singer. Definitely time to stop living on past glories

This!!!

Self-righteous, hypocritical, judgmental, they're two peas in a pod.

You know it's getting near Christmas when every old/MOR singer brings out a flipping Great American Songbook/showtunes/covers album.
I also see it's popular this year to do an unplugged album or orchestral arrangement of your old songs.

Was going to say the same. Heard the album today. The Nearness Of You is a brilliant song if sung well. Sorry Annie but. Leave the classics alone
