TV off But Still Has Optical Output
TV - Samsung PE434500AW UK version.
Connected to Maxell MXSB-252 Soundbar. This soundbar sould turn off when the TV put into standby but does not. I notice that if I disconnect the optical out - SPDIF - from the TV, the soundbar succesfully turns off - this is with the TV in standby. It seems therefore that there is an audio output from the TV even in standby and yes - I can see red light at the socket. Powering off the TV at the mains supply then reconnecting leaves the soundbar off and I note that at this point there is no light from the SPDIF socket on the TV. The same symptoms are present if I set the TV to either internal speakers OR external speakers. What's going on? J |

I have a similar thing with my active sub woofer connected to my AV amp via coaxial cable but although it does not turn off when the amp is turned off it does after about 10 minutes or so, so I assume the circuit is just powered by electricity from smoothing capacitors and once discharged the speaker turns off too.
Have you tried leaving it for awhile to see if it eventually powers down? |

I left it for two hours this morning. Manual says it should turn off after 2.5 minutes.

Not unusual to find the optical out still active when the device is in standby. Normally it's not an issue, it does become an issue though when you connect say an optical switch or a device like your soundbar that requires a complete power down of an input to function as intended.

Have you tried leaving it for awhile to see if it eventually powers down? Just my personal preference but I never used this function, I have known subs in the past to remain in standby when they should be active, probably down to poor circuitry and price. |

Are optical cables prone to external interference?

Thanks for the answers. Looks like I will be using the nasty little remote that came with the soundbar for on/off.
