Ah right that's good to know that there's no slow down on stock and that the sky go app appears to be ok.

The reason I ask is that I have manually cleared the cache before using the menu when you turn on, just wondered if it was the same thing?

no idea what menu you are referring to.
a clean install is always preferable over an upgrade.

It's crap on 4.4. On my Z3, it loads, works (mostly) then keeps saying it has crashed - but then restarts and carries on as if nothing happened.

All of the Sky apps are pretty bad, even if they all now look pretty good. Style over substance?

The Now TV app seems a lot more stable though.

no problems with it on 4.x

When you say clean install that says to me rooting, or are you referring to a factory reset?

I was referring to clearing dalvik cache on the cache partition, I did this on my nexus 7 to try and speed it up after going between several OTA releases.

which says to me you don't know what "rooting" actually is.

dalvik doesn't exist on 5.0.

Is it easy to do a clean install? Is it risky and is there a guide?

Please explain your understanding of a clean install and how it gets into the phone so I can understand you better.

Please explain your understanding of an upgrade for the same reason.

if you have reasonable computer skills and can follow instructions, then yes, it is reasonably easy. plenty guides out there (google them).

there's a risk in everything. there's a risk in receiving the OTA update.

i don't need to explain my understanding of them.
i know what they are.

if you don't understand them then i suggest you use google to read up on what those terms mean.

From what I've read, it involved unlocking a boot loader?

only temporarily, whilst the image installs.
you can re-lock it again once complete.

unlocking it requires no special tools, you simply boot in the menu and select unlock (volume up/down and power).

the longest part of the process is downloading the image from the google servers.

Won't that just do the same as a factory reset? It says you don't have to erase everything if you don't want to??

That's only relevant if your bootloader is already unlocked.

Thanks. Not doing a clean install now. Factory reset seems to have improved everything.

I forced my upgrade through doing the google play service and framework trick, it took 2-3 attempt's.
"
For anyone who is still waiting on the ota update try this method and it will work! Go to settings apps all Google play services manage space clear data then go to Google Services framework clear data and force stop. Now go to about phone system updates (it should say last checked in 1969) check now keep refreshing and it should push the update to your phone if it doesn't work the first time keep trying."
