According to LG my G3 will be updated in "the fourth quarter," which is now-ish. Looking forward to it.

Probably Feb 2015. Samsung need to destroy the software with its own clunky stuff.

As Google rolls out the OTA over several days/weeks, the chances you will get the notification on the first day are quite slim anyway.
They have an process which works as follows according to some stuff I've read:

* you only get one opportunity per day to receive an update.
* If you don't get it on your first try each day, then you have a 0% chance of getting it until the next day.
* The chance of getting an update increases on any given day increases per day (if that makes sense).

I'm sure Samsung said within 90 days of lollipops release they would release it themselves.

They have had plenty of time to adapt it to their phones.

That is true, I have no idea why Samsung does that, they make good phones and tablets and yet slow them down with a load of rubbish that can not be got rid off.

According to Artem Russakovskii's post on his Google+ page, OTA for Android 5.0 for Nexus devices has been pushed back by a week. We'll see it this time next week.

They're ironing out some last minute bugs. My Nexus 7 can wait a week.

Hey guys, I just got word from one of our tipsters that the first OTAs got delayed due to some outstanding bugs, now currently scheduled for the 12th.

Why couldn't they add DirectX support legally though when DirectX to OpenGL wrappers already exist for desktop os's, things like Swiftshader which software emulates DirectX7-9 and pixel shader 1-3.0
As already indicated DirectX is Microsoft technology which is a wrapper technology to access OpenGL. Android therefore doesnt need to directly support it as it already supports OpenGL.

In regards to the S5 there are already a couple of videos doing the rounds of s5s with lollipop touch wiz n'all currently doing the rounds so I'd say before the end of the year, my S5 has vodabloat on it, so likely Feb 2015 for me

i am in no rush for it for the Nexus 4 or 7 to be honest. I had another look at some videos of it and every video I look at puts me off it even more.
I just wish Android did not bug so much to update, I was not that fond of Kitkat, but I did update eventually, but this Lollipop looks awful, at least Kitkat did not look too bad.

What don't you like about it?

Have to admit I've not looked too much at it myself, but the addition of anything that can increase battery life is a good one!

I can't wait to see if the battery is noticeably improved with Android 5.

Having now updated most system apps ahead of the OS update on my Z3, the lovely new animations and transition effects must be consuming GPU power that wasn't being used before.

The battery certainly wouldn't be improved now, they've delayed it due to the update causing catastrophic battery drain!

As for the likes of the LG G3 getting it "in the last quarter", dream on unless you mean Q4 2015 Most of the Nexus devices will be lucky to receive it before December at this rate, and there's not a cat in hells chance of a heavily skinned variant like that on the G3 getting it this year, sorry to piss on your chips and all that! Thats without even mentioning that it wont even look like Android L once LG have finished with it

Actually, there is.

L has been on preview for months. Not much has changed. So OEMs have had plenty of time to make it.

Does anyone know for certain what Samsung handsets will be getting Android 5.0?

I'll revisit this thread next year to say I told you so

Those screenshots confirm what I thought - it looks less like Lolipop and more like the horrid custom version LG churn out.

I've never had anyone piss on my chips before. I hope it's not like vinegar, I'm not keen on vinegar.

I didn't think the G3 was that heavily skinned. Definitely not as much as the Samsung S4 Zoom.

I'll update when I'm updated. Hopefully before Q4 2015.

just got my S5. Going mad with all the Samsung stuff. It's android 4.4.2. My nexus 4 has been running 4.4.4 for months. Battery life was (even) worse with 4.4.4 on the nexus. I hope they don't release the update until the battery drain is fixed.

can't see Samsung going straight from 4.4.2 to 5 anyhow?

The look of it for a start, all that white background,, in all apps and the settings, but I could live with that. but I do not like the new notification bar and I do not like the app changer. On Kitkat, it is just a line of apps, on the new one, they done it like a cascade now. Too much animation as well, not sure how a older device will cope with that.

My LG G3 and Z3 can stutter with some of the new animations within Material Design apps, so I do think older phones are going to look worse.

The white background is a much better fit on LCD screens, which is what the majority of new devices are using.

The notification bar is much better and has added functionality, such as a built-in flashlight and toggles for key settings and direct links to the relevant pages within the Settings app rather than long-pressing like you have to in KitKat. Also, I like how the notification bar changes colour when in an app as it makes the app look bigger on screen, rather than cramped by a black notification bar and navigation bar at the bottom.

Animation will obviously be scaled on performance. Google is still working on Project Butter which has already dramatically improved smoothness on many devices.
