I updated today to Android 5.0.1 on my Nexus 5 by flashing the factory image. It is so much smoother and snappier than 5.0
why did you do that when you could have just used the OTA update zip.

But it can't do that, my phone screen is blank until I press the power switch. so i now press the power switch, slide the screen up and then unlock the phone.
Three actions just to use the thing. I managed without the slide screen before.
so you're saying that it's impossible to accidentally touch the power switch whilst it's in your pocket?

Typical I got the update today, however last night the phone crashed so badly that the only option was a factory reset. Lost all my images as well which was a real pain in the backside. I have learn that one now though.

for every .0.1 update?
that's overkill.

I have not done so yet. It is not as if it is a soft press switch and need a bit of pressure on it, maybe being in a case helps.

Decided to hold fire on updating my Nexus 4 from 4.4.4 to 5.0, and in the end did it about four days ago using OTA. Could not have run more smoothly, took about an hour.

The new version is so much nicer to use. Hit a couple of minor quirks which I am still getting my head around.
a) How to close chrome tabs from within chrome itself. Looks like you have to use the task manager now.
b) No Photo gallery app, or is replaced by the G+ "photos" app
c) Shutdown is different, not sure you can directly trigger a reboot other than to shut the phone down and switch it back on again.

could you ever? never noticed a reboot option previously when holding the power button.

Or don't use Chrome.

correct

I have not noticed that, mainly because i have not taken any photos with my phone since i updated. So Google is still trying to force people onto Google+.
I took a photo just now and had a look, at the new photo app, it is ok, but the old one was better. It asked me twice about backing up my photos, I have said no, hopefully that will be it and it do not keep nagging.

Not as far as I know.

One thing I like about android is the auto-backup of photos/video to my google account when I'm on wifi, combined with the auto-story feature, and sometimes the auto-awesomeness works well too.

What the hell is auto story and auto awesomeness? they both sounds scary.

You can only back up your photos if you are on Google+, another way for Google to try and keep their failing social network up and running.

the are filters that you can apply to photos, part of the google+ photo library.

you don't need to use the actual google+ network though. all auto-uploads are private and you never need to go anywhere near a google+ profile to use the feature.

Or simply use another cloud storage provider such as Dropbox

Not really as the photos app is part of a planned move to separate pictures and videos from Google+.

Maybe not, but it is still there, it6 is bad enough that there is a Google profile I can not get rid of.

Anyway, the few photos I take with my phone I normally move to a external drive.

I could do, but I do prefer not to have photos online, unless I choose them to be there.

Again, so why do they insist on people having a Google+ profile? If they are planing to separate them, do that mean that Google is going to do away with Google+, like they do not force people to have a Google+ profile now when people sign up for a Google account.
