When Kitkat first came out, i decided not to install it at the time, so I ignored the notification, but I could nto get rid of it, so it was always there, until I eventually decided to update.

I use Nova already, but it only change the home screen, it can not change the look of other screens. I do not mind updates as long as they do not change the way I have set my device up.
Look at windows 8.1 now, my windows is set up how I want it to be set up. If windows 10 comes out as a free update, which no one knows yet if it will or will not be, then that would change the way I got my computer set up. My computer works fine, no problem at all with it and no crashes for ages. So I will not update to Windows 10 even if it is free for the moment. Maybe if something goes wrong with my comp and I have to reinstall I will have a look. I don't think I will pay for it as I am slowly going away from Windows.
With my phone again it works how i like it to work now, I am used to it and where things are and the most important thing it is reliable now. A new update may muck it up.

I used to like my Nokia 3310, the most reliable phone I ever had, battery last for days, a ring tone I can hear, so can most people in a 20 foot radius
But it would not suit my needs and i do more than just make phone calls and text on my phone. I use it for browsing, emails , facebook and even use the camera now and again. True I keep location switched off, I never use Google now or use gmail apart from keeping the contacts updated.

Yeah, its there just like it is on iOS. You don't have to update it.

I've got Windows 8.1 on my Asus Transformer and i have to say i love it. It does what i need, when i need it. It's never crashed nor have i ever had any crashes since Windows XP.

It doesn't muck it up. It simply adds new features, a redesigned UI, better battery which i love on my G3 and security updates.

Really? Because with Jelly bean it certainly was not like that. I had a constant notification to update to Kitkat in the in the notification bar and i could not get rid of it. so are you saying that I will be able to get rid of the notification to update to Lollipop and that will be the end of it? If only it was that simple.
With IOS, a mate of mine had notification to update to the latest IOS on his Iphone, he ignored it and had nothing since.

windows 8 crashed on my computer due to a hardware problem with my memory, since i took the stick out, things have been fine. I can not see how you have not had any crashes unless you are not using it for much. all computers crash, certainly when they are being pushed.
Windows 8.1 does what I need, as i said i have it set up as i want it now, with a nice start menu, updating to 10 would no doubt get rid of that start menu and replace it with their own complete with tiles.
I am glad that Ms have seen sense and saw that the start screen have not gone down well, but they still seem to think that we want the silly metro apps.

I have a battery saver, not that I use it much, I expect that is what they say about better battery use, unless they managed to to get the OS managing apps better.
i see that Lollipop is running the Art runtime as default instead of Dalvik , which is fine, but there are still some apps that do not like Art. I been using Art for months and it been working fine, then Halifax updated their app and it all went haywire, I swaped back to Dalvik and all is fine again.
How many people will know how to do that when they have problems?

That reads to me like "if you like the new design, your a puppet who accepts anything". I object to that being that I actually like the new design and am happy to call a spade a spade.
If too many people just go with the flow, what was the backlash against Windows 8 about (which incidentally, is far from perfect IMO but not as bad as some like to make out).

The backlash about windows 8 was from businesses and just a little bit from joe public. Since most money that MS makes from windows is from large companies, they can not afford to upset them .
Windows 8 problem was the start screen, it was and still is awful, but there are other problems. But mine is running ok.

Apart from the colour, settings etc is EXACTLY the same. Everything is in the same place as it always has been on Android.
I said to install nova to get it back to the kitkat look sine youve done nothing but whine about the colour scheme of Lollipop.

Jesus!! Is there nothing you wont bloody moan about? That was ages ago. Ive been running Halifax, RBS and Barclays on ART since it appeared in Kitkat on the Nexus.
Sure, some apps didn't work, however, i don't have one app out the 60 or so i have that doesn't work on ART and hasn't for a long time.

It was certainly as much from the public.The a actual user got well sacrificed just so that Microsoft could get touchscreen market share. There is always some sacrifice in any supposed update but that one was even more blatant since Vista.
If too many apps fail here then L will not be that well received.

You said to install nova, and then you said why have I installed nova. Nova only changes the home screen colours and the icons, it don't change other screens, I have already said that. so no point in installing nova on Lollipop as it will not change the things I do not like.

i never said it was a software problem, but adobe stuff cause problems now and again.
All computers crash, it is just operating systems are getting better at stopping the whole machine fall over. Even the so called fantastic apple Mac crash, try running logic pro on a MAc and you will soon see.

Because i am not interested in the Os, as I do not want it installed. i just seen how it looked and that put me off, so I have not got into anything else about it.

so was i running Halifax app on Art until a few weeks back and then Halifax updated the app and it would not install. I uninstalled my old version of the app and it still did not install. Changed back to Dalvik and it installed right away, not that I nocited any difference between Dalvik and art anyway

How do you know you liked it before you used it? You updated either because they tell you to update or because it is new and you think you should update.

But people did not know what windows 8 was like before they rejected it, I at least did try it. That was before I had it given me. The problem with Android, you can not try it first.

i do admit, the only App i have that failed on Art was my Halifax one and that was after a few months, the other few apps i use worked.
Decided I would have a go and update my Nexus 7 from factory image and so downloaded accordingly. Plugged in my Nexus 7 and confirmed device was connected via the adb devices instruction.
However when I issue the adb reboot bootloader the device responds but then two low bleeps from the PC indicate the device is disconnected. If I try fastboot oem unlock of course, nothing happens.
So, no choice but to wait it out for OTA.

can't seem to find a quick way to enable silent mode/vibration only.
previously you pressed and held the power button and you got options to do it there. now doing that just gives the power off option.
no other short keys anywhere either.

The new Android 5 Do not Disturb feature might have a bearing on this.
Android 5 changed how silent mode functions.
Instead of holding down the power button to bring up a sub-menu, you access it by pressing on one of the volume buttons.
Also you will see Priority, All and None tabs.
Use All and all your alerts will get through.
Use either Priority or None and use the option to halt the alerts indefinitely or for a specified number of hours.

How do you know you don't like it before you use it?
Of course you can go back if you update. That is the beauty of a Nexus, device; it is so easy to flash a factory image. The previous factory images are there to download and flash. If you can’t manage a fastboot command then the Nexus toolkits are even easier.
As others have said, if you don’t want to update then don’t. And if you don’t want to be nagged then just turn off updates. I assume that option is there on the N4, it is nearly a year since I sold mine and I flashed CM 10.1 as soon as I had it powered on and then ran other custom ROMs.
Really though complaining about updates on a NEXUS? Come on, get real. It is one of the main selling points of the things. They are supposed to be updated to the latest version. And unfortunately all those evil OEMs seem to be following Google’s example and rolling out updates to 5.0 for their flagships. Those poor users having the latest software thrust on them. In the past these forums were full of posts praising the likes of Samsung, LG and Sony for abandoning their phones and never pushing out updates. Whereas the poor iPhone users were presented with near universal instant rollouts of the latest version of iOS – yet another reason to hate Apple.

but i want all my notifications, i just want it to only vibrate when i choose, and play a sound when i don't choose.
to get it to do that i have to scroll the volume all the way down to zero to engage vibrate only mode - not user friendly.
So this doen't work then Chenks?
Will be a bit miffed if they've taken out the "switch to vibrate" option...
